By signing up for this championship you will be sent the replays/skins and setups required for each race plus a guranteed starting slot.
The first round of the LFS Championship will be held the weekend starting the 10th of Febuary. You do not need to take part in every even but the results are cumulative so the more events you take part in the better chance you have of getting a prize. Points are awarded to 8th place with the winner taking 10 points. The pole sitter for the endurance event will also get a championship point and the fastest lap of the endurance race will also get a point.
The programme of events is as follows:
XFG Rally Cup
10th and 11th of Feb. Two events over two days.
10th February the Rally reverse track. 10minutes warmup to start at 13:00hrs, followed by 4mins quallifying and a 4 lap race.
11th February the Rally track. 10minutes warmup, followed by 10minutes quallifying and a 10 lap race schedlued start time 13:30. 1 pit stop is required , not to be taken on the last lap.
Also, the final day for submision of the Hotlap (XFG on the GP track) will be the 10th of February. (meaning you should have already set a time before the lan)
Setups, skins and laptimes to aim for will be posted later today.
You have a choice of 2 skins (the ones pixie prepared) and a choice of number on your car. When Signing up please indicate what number you want, please note NOONE is allowed '0' or '1'. 1 is reserved for the champion, and this is a new series so we don't have one and 0 is reserved for the pace car.
The chamionship can support up to 12 entrants per race. So it will be first come first served.

Out of interest - how did you manage to post a new thread in the events forum? Only the committee members should be able to do that. Hrmmm...

Since it had to be moved, is there any chance we could sticky the posts about LAN competitons (ie this and the CS:S once) so that they dont get bumped down by the drunken bollocks we all seem to spew on a bi-nightly basis? :P

Is that why we've lost the "yes, I'll come" etc options?

Anyway... I'd like to join in but as per usual the self extractor is not working. This may be caused by the same problem as EVE patches. I'll try installing under safe mode. See if that works.

Yes.
The RSVP options only exist for Events currently, so I'm guessing people just need to sign up manually and one of the mods or Admins will edit the post with the information.

I don't know what's happened there. It's a zip file, compressed with the zip executable thing (well, the last time I checked, anyway). can you open it with winrar or 7-zip?

In that case, it sounds like something seriously wrong is happening with your computer. Is Winzip broken (reinstall?)
What does the MD5 hash say - can you download MD5 summer from here (http://www.md5summer.org/). (direct zip (http://www.md5summer.org/md5v12005.zip), exe (http://www.md5summer.org/md5v12005.exe), <1Mb)
then hash the exe file for me please? I'll do the same tonight, and we can compare the two.

Yeah, there is no controller restrictions, the only restriction I might impose, but not inforce is that pixie sticks to mouse control to level the field and make it more fun, but if he really wants to pwn you all he might just ask to borrow my wheel/pedal setup, then you are all super fucked.

What are good times for the three races?
I've managed to get the following so far:
XFG: GP - 1.38.5 - 810th in the world!
XFG: Rally - 1.15.5 - 120th in the world!
XFG: Rally Rev - TBC
For a guide, the world records are:
XFG: GP - 1:32.95
XFG: GP Rev - 1:34.09
XFG: Rally - 1.11.16
XFG: Rally Rev - 1.11.68
I'll upload some easy-handling setups too, when I can dig them out.

XFG
GP: 1:35:80
Rally: 1:13:16
Rally Rev: 1:15:18
Are the laptimes I set for the replays, they are beatable (the replay laps are far from perfect) but should be good enough to show folk where and what to do).
Do not ever take easy driving setups, they are a waste of time. Take the race setups or the default, an easy driveing setup will simply limit the fun you can have because you will brake earlier, accelerate slower and corner more slowly than everyone else.
I don't have a setup for the Gp reverse yet, hence no time but last time I tried I think I was about a 1:38

I don't have a setup for the Gp reverse yet, hence no time but last time I tried I think I was about a 1:38
Are the setups for reverse and normal the same? If not, what's the difference?
Anyway, some replays and some setups (http://dave.joanddave.co.uk/LiveForSpeed/setups_and_replays.zip). I use mouse for the steering and PS2 analogue for the brake/accel. They're not the fastest setups in the world, but are quite stable for braking and cornering. Remember to be gentle.
Put the .set in lfs/data/settings and the .spr in the lfs/data/spr directories
The gingerloki ones are mine, the others are some other racers that have the world records. They're really good for learning lines and braking points.

fast setups are balanced toward the gearing being setup for the corners, as the approach for the corners change so too do the enrty/exit speeds therefore the gear timings need to be changed. Also all the cambers are different so the car needs different suspension settings.
For the Rallyx you are not 120th, you are 137th, I rank 77th.
XFG GP: I'm = 783rd and you are now at best 830th
Times change pretty fast on the demo tracks :(

I got a 1.43.99 on hotlap for GP in that little XFG. I was meant to hit 'view replay' then 'save lap data' wasn't I?
I've noticed I handle the XFG with almost too much caution - whereas normally with that turbocharged thing (top end car in demo) I usually just fling it into the corners, hold the slide, and blaze on out again. Perhaps the twitchy yet uncomplicated handling subconciously makes me think I'm driving my own car :D
I was thinking of making a blue skin for the XFG, only with it in dark blue with rust patches, mud on the doors, and several dents. If I put the pausegaming livery on it, might I be able to enter this? :D

OK, the warm up to the second round of the LFS Championship is upon us.
A quick reminder of the points standing shows that Pixie is leading with an impressive gap, larry is looking secure in second, 3rd and fourth are tightly contested and the rest are nipping at the heels. Looks like it could shape up to be an interesting race this LAN.
The event this lan consists of
Second round
Sprint - XRG - Blackwood GP
Endurance - XFG - Blackwood RallyX
2nd LAN
XRG - Blackwood GP
So you get the endurance race in a car you know well on the favoured rallyX track but the big unknown is who is going to keep it all together for the 4 lap sprint race in the RWD monster saloon? To assist you all with getting familiar with the RWD and GP track this LANs hotlap (5 points available - and a further potential 2 points for fastest lap in the race and pole) - it's almost like someone planned it.
I know pixie has worked on the skins for this new car and hopefully they will be available shortly. Further analysis of the race will be available shortly along with a a super special bonus!
I'm not in glasgow to set up the server tomorrow so I expect you all to be bashing round the GP track in hotlapping mode.
Use this setup for the XRG on the GP track. (Remember to rename it to a ".set" file)

Should help you find out what you should be doing, also if you hit escape while the replay is running you can select test drive to drive thier setup. (well you could in the last patch at least.)
Quick warning about doing the test drive, it forces the same settings as they were using like auto clutch off which is a pain for those of us using keys!

So, ignoring the fact that noone bothered to compete against Niall in the hotlapping, well done Niall.
However the championship is still wide open and if you put in some practice it should be possible to take the fight to niall.
The next round will be 4 laps in the XRT in the GP track.
Then the final endurance round will be a whopping 18 laps, 1 pit stop required, in the XRG on the GP track.
This will mean that even for the fastest of you it will be a half hour race. Practice is a must, consistancy over this distance is more likely to yeild results than plain pace. Noone has that much experience in the XRG and Nialls performace advantage could easily be eclipsed by clean driving over that distance if he makes even one mistake.
Ok, in order for you to have a realistic chance of beating Niall you'll need to be able to lap consistantly in the 1:36s to have a fight with Niall you'll need to lap in the 1:37s. Anything slower and Niall will get very bored out front. Which may be his undoing, it's hard to concentrate on nothing. The tires for the setup attached lasted the 18 laps with no issues, I'd expect this setup can proably manage 50+ laps without overheating the tyres so don't worry about that. The car requires 1% fuel per lap and the pit stop gives you a minimum of 5% so having 20% in the car to start with is the MAX you should need. However I've not verified this yet and you may want to look into it yourself.
Both races are on the GP track so you'll know it inside and outby the end of the meet. I'm more than willing to look at your replays to give pointers or talk about it in general either in game or elsewhere.
Also remember that there are no controller restrictions so if you have a wheel/pedal setup you can use it. For the Turbo I'd expect a W/P setup to yeild a 2 sec performance advantage and make the consistancy much better in the XRG.

A bit of nudging and bumber wresling is ok, but fullblown T-boneing and cming in full tilt into corners and use others to get around is in my book dirty as fuck, aka both of my sprint races iv been t-boned on the first corner and as a result finished lower than i wished, maybe something could be done, or perhaps jst a rethink in atitudes, or even a rethinking of the grids i duno,,not saying im perfect by any means on the contarary

I'm with you on that one File. The first corner is a killer but the problem I forsee is the policing of a policy where the people causing the pile ups are docked points and the such. I personally irrespective of my placing, which granted is not usually all that spectacualr, slow down at the start so that I can miss most of the carnage and gain some advantage that way. Perhaps the way it could be done is for yega to instigate a staggered start by which he leave 5 seconds between places. With a time adjustment given at the end this could be normalised out. Perhaps this is a little too much work for a race. I dunno. Yega?

Does LFS support American NoobStart aka Rolling starts?
YegaDoyai
28th March 2007, 02:17
No, you can't have rolling starts as that requires people to remember that tehy are not allowed to overtake until after the line, and that they have to go at whatever pace the leader dictates. Utter disaster for you n00bs.
Each race is looked at by me and penalties handed out accordingly. NOONE in the last two races was without incident and after watching it a few times noone that was part of an accident lost out (ie a place) as a result of the accident. I could have awarded penalties to everyone but tbh that just makes it look bad so I decided to call it as 'fair is fair' as you were all to blame. None of you are driving well enough to be considerd for online races, which I was kinda hoping you'd be up for by the end of this championship. Specifically I was hoping to get you guys good enough to join me in an attempt on this:
http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=20820
A 24hr race!
But while some of you are capable of driving round the track on your own, none of you have picked up the racecraft I was hoping you would. MORE PRACTICE!
To improve your race craft race against the AI but set yourself the goal of not being allowed to touch the AI. That means even if they are trying to hit you YOU have to move. It makes you think about more than just the next corner and gives you a much better awareness of the track/car.

Hot damn, now I know why it's called the XRT! XR Twitchy more like! :@
The settings that Yega's providing are twitchy as all hell, but are just a sliver faster than one I found called "Easy Race" (yes, I am bad).
I have so far managed a 1:30.31 in the XR Twitchy, and a 1:40.31 in the XRG.

Jan, go play GPL for about 2 hours (choose the lotus and watkins glen) when you have done 2 hours of that you'll simply love all other cars.

Crickey Jan, you must be really struggling with the XRT, I can get better times than that putting it sideways into the first corner.

Ok, you may have noticed in the race that niall was (quite commandingly) the fastest guy on the track. In fact DURING THE RACE he beat the hotlap he submitted for the first hotlap event! Good race niall, looks like the practice payed of, you forced me to go .8 sec faster than I had done before to try and keep up :)

Twas a good race. Just disappointed more people didn't try the rear wheel drive car for the actual race. With 0 practice I managed to make it round the track without a serious error. Sure it sided it a few times and had to jink to correct but it's more than possible to get a good time on that track.

I appear to have gotten into the wrong car for the race - I did the course from Glasgow to Dalmellington with greasel_burger instead! Doh!

Well done, Pixie & thanks very much to you Yega, it was great fun hammering around the track. I think we've all improved massively at LFS too.
It's really great to see the stats for the replays. Frankly, my lap times aren't that consistent, but at least they seem to have a downward trend in the race.
I'll be looking for you all online on the LFS servers ;)
