Hi I have a HP Pavlion zv6009ea Notebook and its running with:
512mb Ram (x2 256) 200 Pin Dimm - SDRAM - 2.5V - DDR - PC2700
It can support 2GB Max!

I looking to upgrade it so my games will run smoother, will this actually work?
If so how much should i upgrade it by?:?:

What operating system and games are you running?

if the specs here are correct:

then most games will be limited by the graphics if they run at all with 512Mb. Extra memory will make everyday tasks quicker though, but at the cost of the upgrade you might be better off saving your money for a new computer with a gaming graphics card.

yup, like i said, it's the graphics processor that is killing your games not the memory.

Sure, if you don't want to see graphics/performance in games increase.

Upgrading your RAM will NOT help your games run better.

A new graphics card would.

Upgrading your ram WILL make games run better. But upgrading the GFX card will make them run better by a much greater margin.

and more noticeably

Upgrading your ram WILL make games run better.

In this particular case, it'll only let games load faster. Any bonus to in game performance is going to be almost un-noticeable with that chipset.

Its not the graphics that i have the problem with its just that sometimes it cannot process enough power when theres lots of moving things on the screen so in away i think ill buy some more RAM!:-o

That's just FPS (Frames per second) lag. It's be your graphics card.

Ok then well ive orderd my RAM anyway, im gonna have to wait a while till i get can get a new computer...:(

No, with that little RAM it IS going to impact general game performance, especially since some of it currently has to be shared off to the graphics card. Constant caching is going to be a pain in the arse; Source is especially bad for this.

So your saying that the ram upgrade will help me out then?

Sideshow

Yeah, but a new GFX card will be a lot more effective

It'll speed up windows and generally help you run programs faster. Windows XP likes to have 300Mb of memory just wasted for some reason.

Yes, it'll probably be a little faster. Benchmark before and after to see exactly how fast.

As everyone else says, a new gfx card will be the way to upgrade, but this is severely limited on laptops.
