Ok, it seems that the only way to drum up interest in a game is set a challenge.

Requirements:

1 Computer capable of playing LFS
1 Copy of the demo of LFS
1 Person with a bit of determination and decent hand eye coordination

The championship will consist of 2 Rounds per Lan, as it is just the demo there are only 4 tracks and 3 cars. So if we have another 3 - 4 lans we should be able to get the majority of combos.

The rules:
First up, I will not partake in the races, I will be a spectator and judge for the races. At my discretion infringements of the rules will result in a 10 or 30sec penalty to be added at the end of the race classification (for when an infringement is made late in the race or when an infringement is not noticed until after the race has finished), a 'stop go' penalty to be awarded with additional stationary time if deemed nesscessary to be completed before the final lap starts and disqualification of a session, round or championship (where a session refers to qualifying or single race and round means and entire LAN weekend).

In general disqualification will only be used if you are deemed to have purposefully ruined someones attempts at either racing or qualifying.

'fair racing' as seen in any FIA championship and the rules and guidelines that go with it are to be the expected code of conduct. That is, the FIA (and in game) flag system is to be used and all ingame penalties are valid and must be completed. Flag rules are simple, Yellw means that you should be aware that there is a hazard ahead and NO OVERTAKING is allowed. A green flag indicates that all is fine and you should race as normal. A blue flag means that a faster car is approaching from behind in race or qually you should be mindfull of the faster car approaching.

Points:
The current F1 points system will be used, with a minor variation. Points will be awarded from 1st to 8th place. A point will also be awarded for fastest lap and for pole.

In the result of a tie for the championship the person with the most wins will be awarded the championship. If they tie on wins, then most second places will determine the winner etc.

A weekend will consist of a 'sprint' race and an 'endurance' race. The sprint will be 4-5 laps and will not include a pitstop. The 'endurance' race will consist of 10-12 laps and will have one mandatory pit stop. (this means race lengths of no more than 30 minutes, hopefully)

General rules:
You must not reset your car (shift - r) during a race, doing so results in immediate disqualification.
You must not drive in the reverse direction on the track (inforced in game).

Prize:
As yet undecided but there will be a worthwhile prize for the victor.

First round:
Sprint - XFG - Blackwood RallyX Rev
Endurance - XFG Blackwood RallyX

Second round
Sprint - XRG - Blackwood GP
Endurance - XFG Blackwood RallyX

Third round
Sprint - XRT - Blackwood GP
Endurance - XRG - Blackwood RallyX Rev (a damn good challenge)

Fourth round (this round might not take place)
Sprint - XFG Blackwood GP Rev
Endurance - XRT - Blackwood GP Rev

In addition there will be a 5 point bonus available each LAN for whoever sets the fastest laptime in the hotlap for the following combos:
1st LAN
XFG - Blackwood GP
2nd LAN
XRG - Blackwood GP
3rd LAN
XRG - Blackwood GP Rev
4th LAN
XRT - Blackwood RallyX Rev

Hotlap rules are simple, if the HLVC says it's ok, it's ok. Save your laps by pressing '2' at the end of your session, this will save a replay that we can use later to verify your time.

Results will follow.

Good luck

I'm in. I'm not going to be very good, since I can't get the wheel to work, and I can't spare a huge amount of time, but I'll have a shot at the races.

sounds good to me! Will be interesting to have a persistent element of competition over many LAN's. :)

It's not the actual d/l that's the problem it's the corruption it seems to pick up on the way.

1) download from a mirror with MD5 or some other hash to check the download integrity
2) verify the dl
3) play LFS

If that doesn't happen, what does winzip (or Winrar) say when you "test archive"

Here is an exclusive peek at the new Pause Gaming LFS skin! I'm currently working on a black version as well. Once Peter gets the sign up on and people pick car numbers, I can make them up and send them to folks.

Plus, Peter, here is my first hot lap for Black Wood in the XFG - 1.36.51 (see screenshot)

Was that ambulance in there for any particular reason ;)

Seriously though, that skin looks fantastic. I really like the paws logo on the top. Can you still choose the colours for individuals?

Nice one, Niall - they look great. I was gonna have a shot at these for Peter, but now I don't think I'll need to bother! :P

Cheers! I'm glad you like them. :)

You can use the colour sliders to mess with the colours "a bit". Works out ok on the white skin but not so much the black. The sliders change the selected area of the car, but will only do it accurately to the "white" areas of the skin. I guess I could do some other variants of the skin, maybe:

Red main with white stripes and white bumpers etc - (invert of the white skin)
Red main with Grey stripes and Black bumpers etc - (invert of the black skin)

They would be easy enough.

Maybe a blue one as well, but I'm not sure. Would be better to only have a couple of different variants of the skin or it will make the start grid a bit messy. :S

The concept is to just run two skins for this championship, it will look better overall and I have other plans that tie in to having just two decent looking skins. Having seen the effort niall has put into the skins and the amount of practice he is putting in, you guys are gonna have your work cut out keeping up.

Thanks again niall, the skins look great.

Man they look sweet. So dissapointed I won't make the lan, but then my best time thus far on hotlapping is just under 1min 40 so I would be miles behind Pixie. :D

2 minutes 19. :(

Fastest I got was 1.38, but that was my very first lap when I was concentrating blind. I reckon it won't be too hard with driving experience and a wheel.
