View Full Version : LAN#3 - Feb 06/07 - What Games do YOU want to see played at the LAN?

Fyndir
10th January 2007, 05:11
Nice and simple, post a list of games which you particularly want to see played at the upcoming February LAN.

This way when the committee have our next meeting we can have a nice little tally of which games most people posted about.

Then, before the LAN I can post a list of the games, and if I'm not feeling too lazy I can provide links to any Demos which were included in the lists, and patches for any other games.

you're absolutely right, I didn't bother discussing this idea with the committee. VIVA LA RESISTANCE!

All the usual, BF2, CS:S, DOW: DC, etc.

1. Total Annihilation (I have it with the 2 expiations on CD and you can fully install them on your system so after install no CD is required, W00t!)
2. ARMA

And to fill up the corners Quake 4 against Viper.

Obviously this looks like a small list, and it's not like I don't enjoy playing other games obviously. But the more small non group involving games that get played, the more fragmented the LAN becomes, so I'm just listing the biggies.

An hour of the hidden.

1-game of Dungeon Keeper.
The rest of the time CS:S and BF2.
Might play some 2142.

That would be awesome. Although I intend to get at least 8 hours sleep in, 2 hours eating, 1 hour drinking and 45 minutes smoking.

So it'd work out at more like 25-30 hours CS/BF2/BF2142ing.

CSS. Default game for most I would presume.
SourceForts. one or two 'events'.
Dungeon Keeper. Most people probably won't be interested but I can see at least two games taking place.
Total Annihlation (or some 3d updated version if we're feeling fancy). Probably one huge game, a couple smaller ones.
UT or UT2004 or something. One 'event'.
Hidden (again, one event)
Live for Speed ("")
DoW (probably a tournament with an 'underdogs' tournament for everyone who gets pwned by Larry and Ru), DoW 4x4 (probably twice for phun). and a 2v2 bridge faggotry rematch!
Defcon (maybe a small game, it's too time consuming on 1:1 time)
I'd like to avoid BF2, but I think it'll be a neccassary evil. 2142? If I can get a serial (and preferably an account with all unlocks, I'll ask greasel_burger who should be coming too), I'll play too.

GingerPrinz
10th January 2007, 23:26
OK I've taken the liberty of compiling the numbers so far.

CS:S - 13
BF2 - 13
DoW - 13
Sourceforts - 7
UT - 7
2142 - 7
LFS - 5
ArmaA - 5
Hidden - 5

Anything with less than 5 I've not bothered to put on the list, since not enough people want to play to bother organising a decent event. At this stage it really is looking like the big 3 are the only ones worth scheduling. If more people vote for the minor games I'll flag it to your attention.

Update 1 - New entries (Arma, Hidden)
Update 2 - Reflects Pit's votes.

In terms of timetabling, we were speaking on IRC about having sourceTV for showing the CS tournament 'final'. I was thinking that if Viper brings his projector, we could show the CS final on the big screen late Saturday night while people are having a pint or whatever.

Whatcha think?

lets just clear this up now, IL2 and ArmA need to be installed BEFORE the LAN otherwise it will take over an hour to get it on everyones machines. I suggest that we stick to the demo for both and those that want to play more get the ISO etc for next time. I suggest restricting the 2142 played for the same reasons (this will be the frst lan that alot of folk will be installing it so it will take a little while.

Also, the 101st Faggotry are just waiting to do some interior decoration on that bridge i.e. carpet it with their bodies.

Then we could play Sim City 2000 Network edition.

Then we could play Doom, and you would all realise that in fact, we have not progressed since Doom deathmatch. Nothing comes close.

That takes ages to play through, let alone multiplayer, doesn't it?

CS:S run steam to patch.

DoW is here. (http://www.fileplanet.com/172074/170000/fileinfo/Warhammer-40,000:-Dawn-of-War---Dark-Crusade-retail-v1.10--%3E-v1.11-patch-) Note: Can also just run the game and try to connect online, but the speeds can be shoddy from what I hear.

BF2 is here. (http://www.fileplanet.com/160777/160000/fileinfo/Battlefield-2-Patch-v1.41-%5BAlso-Patches-Special-Forces%5D-)

UT = I have no idea. Don't even know if we'll be doing GOTY or 2K4 yet.

BF2142 Is here. (http://www.fileplanet.com/169168/160000/fileinfo/Battlefield-2142-Patch-v1.10)

Hidden Source Is here. (http://www.hidden-source.com/downloads.htm) Fileplanet was out of date. The Lincoln University mirror gave me 440kb/s or more.

Sourceforts Is here. (http://www.fileplanet.com/150949/150000/fileinfo/Half-Life-2---Source-Forts-Mod-Client-v1.9.2)

LFS Is here. (http://www.liveforspeed.net/?page=patch_v) Fileplanet was out of date again. Links are down the bottom, the Netherlands Mirror was pretty fast.

ArmA Is here. (http://www.fileplanet.com/171876/170000/fileinfo/ArmA-Demo) Also it seems like a good idea to make sure that we have the dedi server files for the ArmA Demo. Someone prod Jan and make sure he grabs them please. (http://www.fileplanet.com/172452/170000/fileinfo/Armed-Assault-Demo-%5BDedicated-Server%5D)

I'm not sure, I'm guessing someone could but it just speeds everything up this way, we can start most games minus one or two people while they patch, but it's better and easier if everyone who can be patched is patched.

If nothing else, having the majority of people patched and ready would reduce divergence from the schedule due to waiting for people. =)

Most Popular Games - Lots of these

Counter Strike: Source
Battlefield 2
Dawn of War: Dark Crusade

Major Games - Expect a few big games of these

Unreal Tournament: GOTY
Sourceforts

Live for Speed S2
Armed Assault
The Hidden
Battlefield 2142

Minor Games - Will see a bit of action especially in the late evening & early Sunday

Quake 3

F.E.A.R. Combat
Prey

DoW 12
BF2 12
UT 9
2142 7
Hidden 6
SourceForts 6

I think that's because we almost always end up having big games of Sourceforts and UT, whereas the others are a bit less decided on (with the exception of LFS since it's a tournament event for now).

Or maybe it's just a bit random.
