I feel there's not enough people on the IRC channel so I've created a guide to setting up a client and idling in the channel.
Our IRC channel is great for informal banter that you might not find on the forums and also for arranging games with each other without manually adding everyone from the club to MSN.
Installing and configuring mIRC to connect and join a channel.
1. Open http://www.mirc.com/get.html in your browser and choose a server to download from. Here are direct download links: UK Mirror 1 (http://mirc.orion-hosting.co.uk/mirc621.exe) | UK Mirror 2 (http://mirc.ikcs.net/mirc621.exe)

----------------------------------------------
2. Open the installer from your computer:
http://www.pausegaming.com/galleryimages/ircguide/3.JPG
----------------------------------------------
3. Run through the installer like you would for any other Windows program:

I generally don't install a desktop icon:

Select to run mIRC after the installer finishes.

----------------------------------------------
4. When the program first starts, the box shown below will appear. Just click continue.
http://www.pausegaming.com/galleryimages/ircguide/12.JPG
----------------------------------------------
5. Next, the options menu should appear automatically. Here you should enter your name, e-mail (I just use a bogus ones) and two usernames (the second incase the first one is taken).

----------------------------------------------
6. Next click on the "Servers" tab, scroll down, find "Quakenet", open the subfolder, click on "Random UK Server", then click on "Select".
http://www.pausegaming.com/galleryimages/ircguide/14.JPG
----------------------------------------------
7. Next open the options tab and select the following options as shown below. "Connect on startup" and "Reconnect on disconnection". You'll also want to uncheck "Pop up connect dialog on startup" otherwise you'll be hit with the connect box everytime you start mIRC!
After doing this, click the "Perform" button.

----------------------------------------------
8. The "Perform" Dialog box should now appear. You should check "Enable perform on connect", choose "Other networks" from the drop-down menu and then select the "Add" button

----------------------------------------------
9. A new "Networks" dialog box should now appear with an option of servers. You should scroll down, select "Quakenet" and click "OK".
http://www.pausegaming.com/galleryimages/ircguide/18.JPG
----------------------------------------------
10. The "Perform" dialog will now be active again and you should ensure "Quakenet" is selected on the drop-down menu. Then in the "Perform Commands" text-area box you should enter the following text:
/j #pausegaming
Then click "OK"

----------------------------------------------
11. Next, click on the "Options" tab under the category "Display". Then click on the "Tray" button.

----------------------------------------------
12. The "Tray" dialog box will appear and I recommend minimizing mIRC to tray on startup and also to send it to tray when minimized. Set this then click "OK".
http://www.pausegaming.com/galleryimages/ircguide/21.JPG
----------------------------------------------
13. That's the options setup completed, so click "OK", then select File -> Connect.
http://www.pausegaming.com/galleryimages/ircguide/22.JPG
----------------------------------------------
14. You should be faced with the windows shown below. You'll probably want to uncheck "Pop up favourites on connect" otherwise you'll be hit with that dialog every time you connect. Then click OK.

----------------------------------------------
15. That's you ready to chat and hang out with all the cool kids online. If you've got any more questions from that stage forward, you're on the PauseGaming IRC channel so you can ask in there :)
----------------------------------------------
16. Now, so that you startup mIRC everytime your computer starts. You should copy the mIRC shortcut from your Start Menu into your Startup folder on the Start Menu.
Note: This is totally unintrusive as the program will start minimized in the system tray because of what we specified earlier. When you want to start chatting - simply click on the mIRC icon in your system tray, like you might do for MSN messenger.
