I decided to write a thread on EVE given the poor reception it seems to get here because people have either not played the game or have only tried the 14day trial (which I feel is a poor representation of the game especially when people decide they're too good to do the tutorial and then ask stupid questions like how do I move systems without warping to a gate and then activating it? ) So, we'll start at the very beginning and move onto more complex matters in later posts (there is a reason the tutorial is 2hours long).
Starting Off
Before you can get into the wide, varied and visually stunning universe of EVE we need to discuss what kind of character you want in the first place with character creation.Character creationUnfortunately most people who start EVE have not done their homework. When they come to character creation they can fiddle with the face maker and chose a name no problem but when it comes to the attributes there is a distinct problem. What do these things do? If you are at the point where you have already chosen your faction and your race, you've gone too far. You have already laid the foundations for a character who may be a little hit and miss.Your base attributesIntelligence (Int) - Involved mainly with scientific skills but also comes in handy with industry and mining.
Perception (Per)- Mostly seen as a PWNing skill but is also very useful in the effective use of drones.
Charisma (Cha)- Once seen as a useless skill only useful for improving standings if you 'really have to' but now is coming into it's own with the gang augmentations to come in the next big patch.
Willpower (Will)- Usually people second favourite boosted attribute to do with combat.
Memory (Mem)- remembering stuff. Research and learning mostly.
Character planning
Now you have an idea of what the attribute are like you can come up with a concept. There are people who do like to mine and for this you are going to need high memory and intelligence, the same goes for scientific items. If you want to go around wasting people you need high perception and willpower. For a lot of people Charisma has been something for the sidelines what with it being linked to rarely used skills such as improving standing, improving agent offers and gang control. With the next patch (at time of writing Revelations, codename Kali) Charisma will become more useful as gang control and squadron control will change in game warfare drastically. But get a rough idea about what you want to do. Perhaps even get an idea of what persona your character will have. If not we can talk about twinking.
Races
Gallente

The Gallente are my favourite race and usually use weapons then give out thermal and kinetic damage. They are good for people who like to fly what are counted as the most beautiful PC ships in the game such as the famed 'Thorax' cruiser class ship.
Base stats for the different sub groups
They all come with the skills Gallente Frigate, Small Hybrid Turrets + One specific to their race
Intaki :Int 8 Per 3 Cha 6 Will 6 Mem 7 Electronics
Jin-Mei :Int 5 Per 7 Cha 6 Will 7 Mem 5 Leadership
Gallente:Int 6 Per 8 Cha 8 Will 4 Mem 4 Drones
Next you get to fiddle with your face and clothes. Be careful to pick a look you really like (it costs $20 to change it after this period if this is to be your main character)
(Adding to this on 26nd November: Races: Amarr Delayed due to 'Kali' deployment)
