SRC minibus - plea for drivers

Hi everyone,

The SRC have a minibus we could use for transport to/from the lan, but we require drivers if this is going to get off the ground.

The SRC says they need 2 drivers per event [1], each driver needs to be 21 or over and held the licence for 2 years. They also need to be a current student of Glasgow Uni

If anyone meets this and is willing to take an hour out of their week to become a driver for the club, please reply here. The SRC test is a piece of cake, the nice people at the uni garage let you drive the minibus for ~15 mins around Glasgow to get the feel for the bus and to make sure you're not a raving loon. After that you get a shiney laminated card letting you drive the minibus.

I'm trying to get a minibus licence for myself again (the last one lapsed) so I'll be able to help apply etc.

[1] from past experience, the two drivers don't need to be in the same place at the same time. Funny SRC rules.

I'd be up for that, if you cant get anyone else. Im working 9-5, so it may be awkward. I saw you post earlier, but thought you needed a student, is that not correct?

Bugger, I forgot to say you needed to be a current GU student.

Standards of driving don't seem to count either. Judging by the numpties on Glasgow's roads daily, it's avoiding them that's the problem.

I can't really see why the SRC thinks this makes a difference providing someone has the 2 years of experience that are asked for. :confused:

Most students are under 21 anyway, so it's a bit of a ridiculous rule.

I certainly can't think of anyone who'd be eligible to drive from the club in the next few years anyway.

the 21 limit is probably concurrent to the uk rental conditions.

not that it helps with this coming LAN, but are strathclyde students not eligible? I’m six odd months away.

I'll be 21 next April and will have driven for 3 years or so. But in the meantime, GET MING TO DO IT!

Can we meet at the SRC building, if you're free sometime this week? The SRC have a form to fill out and we can arrange the minibus tests while we're there.

Have texted Ming now - we'll need £50 as a deposit for the SRC. Can you sort that out if we get the licences?

BTW, for anyone else, we need drivers. If you have a drivers licence, are over 21 and can space an hour before and after a lan, we would really appreciate it.

I can almost certainly spare an hour (or more) before the LAN (and, since my computer isnt currently working, possibly during), not so sure about after - depends when 'after' happens, as i'll be working.

Sorry, I meant "curent matriculated students of GU. I've only got 8 days left myself. Well, officially.

Generally speaking, Help before, during and after the lans is always appreciated, I'm sure Fyndir or one of the setup coordinaters could tell you more.
