If I remember correctly it wasn’t exclusively the board that decided the name. It was the GUNS society as a whole. Everyone had their say (constructive or - as in this case - not) - Where were you during this time?

lol! :D I agree with you - GUNS was better, but oh well.
If you think you're gonna come along - add yourself to the signup thread (http://pausegaming.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=606). Hopefully see you at the LAN.

Everyone had their chance to voice opinions on the matter, and all opinions were taken into account before a name was chosen.

I haven't been to the LANs for a little while due to lack of money, coursework, job getting in the way etc etc etc, also I haven't checked the forums that often I guess. Still I don't really understand why the subject of a name change was ever brought up....whether or not certain people liked it, there was nothing WRONG with the old name. Change for changes sake? Wheres the sense, eh?? Anyways, i'm on the signup topic now

I wasn't aware of that, but okay.
Edit: I think I might have been in Europe at the time.

I am primarily responsible for instigating the change of name and image for the club. The new image for the club has been a small project running this summer and has had much input from members of the club. This was hugely in favour of the club. For a club to stay alive, it requires new blood. I felt that an image/name change would not only help unite current members with a strong image (the last GUMP LAN and our Freshers stall are good examples of this) but would also encourage interest in the club. From the evidence currently available, it would be safe to deduce that this course of action has been successful. We as a club are now getting well known in the University and now have strong gaming channels in and around Glasgow. The club now offers discounts with Mircoplay and Chips, is making a move towards a Pause Gaming CS: S server, has competed as a team and been very successful and has a striking image to tie it all together.
You say there was nothing wrong with the old name, I beg to differ. Having been part of the team running the Freshers stall last year and this year, I have had first hand experience of the differences. Last year, we didn’t have nearly the same interest as this past fair. The name alone turned people away. This year however, I would even see people that we would regard as non-gamers (groups of dolled up girls for example) coming to the stall just because they found the image interesting. Now if I’m not mistaken, attracting attention is important for the club. I believe that the changes that have been made have certainly done that.

Pausegaming membership (£2) gets you a 10% discount at Chips and a 10% discount at Microplay Gaming.
I'm not sure what limits Chips put on it, but Microplay only gives you the discount if you're buying something smaller than a Gold Pass, because if they applied it to Gold Pass or higher it would fuck any hope of profits. =P

When you come to the LAN this weekend, you'll have to become a member, so you'll get a shiny membership card then. :) There are no real limits for the 10% discount at Chips other than it does not apply to consoles. I've already used it a few times, is well worth the trip! :D
