Questions:
DoW tourney - format? 2v2? round robin? knockout? max/min # of teams?
Venue - is there a way out after the QM officially closes during the night? or is it a lock-in? is there internet access? will the food factory food-bit be open while we're there?
CSS - any chance of a small tourney? even 3v3 or something?
DoW shall be 2v2 knock out Swiss, this will be flexable depending on the amount of players we get.
Access to the QMU overnight shall be not a problem as far as I know. There will be night porters that will be able to let us in and out. I guess we don't want to piss them off too much though so after 2:00am if you're in, try and stay in, except for death stick breaks. :p
CSS tourny is unlikely unless we have enough players. If we have enough teams then sure, we'll try and get some tourny together but for now, it's not official.
Good questions. :)

I'll paste in the questions from the other thread:

2v2 knockout. It'll possibly be made such that the better players are forced to go with a less experienced player, but I'm not sure. Hopefully someone else can comment on this.
anyone got an extra sleepign bag i can steal for the weekend? Muchly appreciated if yes.
Erm, I'm sure someone will have one.
Can we play some LFS?!?
Definitely :)
anyone fancy lending me a spare half descent Gfx just for the weekend?
Eek, fingers crossed you can get something Phizz, would really help you play some more of the games.
can i steal games from u all?
Erm, we generally share games at the LANs. Although only shareware ones, mind you. :D

By all means, come along just for the Sunday. To be quite honest, though - although there's free transport available from the helpful, friendly people here, I doubt anyone could make it as far as Cumbernauld.
If you can work out transport, let us know in the signup thread and we'll add your name to the list.

Oh yeah its the only fucking weekend I'm busy this month too :(
And I go on holiday next month for 3 months! GRR need another pause lan :(
If its the weekend after Gumpcom I might be able to make it can't remember when the plane is, probably monday morning lol :P

If you start out in the centre of glasgow, get on the Underground and find your way to Hillhead station, as you come out of Hillhead Underground Station turn to your left (only one exit, don't worry) and walk along until you get to a four way junction, Tinderbox (coffee shop) is on one corner and is pretty noticeable.
Now, with your back towards the street you just walked down from hillhead turn LEFT into University Avenue, walk along until you reach University Gardens (if you reach the University's main gates you went too far) and turn left to walk along until you see the Queen Margret Union in front of you (the road curves round on itself in front of it, so fairly easy), gain entrance and walk up to the top floor ( Food Factory).
I have no idea how useful that all was, but hopefully it helps. =P

Bleh, shit you can't make it. We'd love to be able to pick you up but it's really too much to manage as the guys with cars will no doubt be doing several runs all around the city.
You're studying at Glasgow Uni, yeah? I assume you know where the QMU is? We'll be in the top floor in the food factory. If you can make it along you can pop in and have a look around. Hey! - maybe someone will give you a shot of their machine to have a few rounds with.

I little reminder to people about F.E.A.R Combat (http://www.joinfear.com/main)
It's totally free and is damn sweet. All of the bugs from the original F.E.A.R. multiplayer have been stomped out and it's now the most intense DM game I've played since Q3 (which was 2 days ago :p). If you have F.E.A.R. already though, just get yourself patched up to the latest version 1.07 (http://www.gamershell.com/pc/fear/). I will be playing this, even if I am just chasing my own shadow, and praticing my flying kicks. :)

DoW will, without a doubt be played on both days - there's usually a big demand for it. The scheduled game is on Saturday, though.

Will there be an internet connection through the network? As I'm staying in halls and therefore have just about every net port blocked and havn't been able to get any updates for any of my games.
Also, I dunno if I can make it yet, but if I do I have an old Athlon MP server lying around which I could bring if it's any use (*cough* also for sale).
Fyndir

As I understand it there SHOULD be an internet connection available through the kindness of the QMU, but I won't promise anything as I'm not 100% sure on that one, Jan should be able to answer that.

Yeah, there should be an internet connection available to the whole LAN, or at the very least there will be a network cable that you can plug in to use the internet and update.
To be honest, it's really just Steam-based games that you would need an internet connection for - between us all, we've probably got the updates for every game imaginable already downloaded.
Thanks for the offer of the server. We should be fine for this LAN but it could definitely be useful for future LANs.

Now I am going to sound like a twat here, but do we need to bring our own machines? And if so what are the minimum requirements? Will we need any extra cables for things? And finally is this in another thread that I am about to discover?

Hey Lith,
Yeah, you do need to bring your own machine but there is transport available if you need it. The networking gear is all provided by the society (including cables) but if you've got a big long Cat5 cable then you might as well bring it along just in case!
Minimum requirements are whatever you like but you might find yourself limited to being able to play only a few games. Does your computer run CS:Source, Battlefield 2, Dawn of War etc. if so, you'll be fine to play anything the rest of us will be playing.
There is some info on at:
http://www.pausegaming.com/menu-faq.html
however, most of it is ridiculously old and inaccurate.

Hey, pretty sure i wont make the saturday, but i may make the sunday (gotta make an effort, since sourceforts seems to be the only game i can score at lol).
For the record, i notice that you are all telling these poor, defenceless freshers to carry their computers to the wrong floor of the qm - Food factory is on the 3rd floor, which is only the top floor if you go up the front stairs (not if you take the lift or the back stairs).
edit: looking increasingly unlikely that i'll make it for sourceforts

It's always been 14th-15th since the room was booked, 6th-7th was mentioned as a possibility in an old thread but not since then.

Erm.....food factory is on the second floor ( we're not americans, we have a ground floor). It is not the top floor either. That is reserved for the hallowed commitee rooms and board offices. I dunno. Some people really need to go explore the QM building more thourghly (or talk to some people from the UK who actually know which floor is which!)

Yeah, the date for the LAN is the 14th and 15th of October 2006.
Although petrol is an issue - I'd imagine it'd be more a case of getting out to Cumbernauld. Someone might be willing to do it, but most of the people with cars do several runs as it is, adding roughly 40 minutes there and 40 minutes back by car might be unmanagable.
Fyndir: While we all know which floor the food factory is on, I think CaNNoN_FoDDa might be meaning that the food factory isn't covered by the lift, or the back stairs or something. I thought it was but I'm not sure.
CaNNoN_FoDDa
9th October 2006, 16:25
it is covered by both the lift and the back stairs. I was merely pointing out, for anyone who isnt familiar with the qm, that it isnt the top floor. Since most of you will prolly wanna take your puters in the lift rather than lug them up 4 flights of stairs (lazy bastards that you are  ) it is kinda relevant.

There's actually 4 floors in the Qm. The top floor is only accessable from the back stairs. There's a couple of flats up there one of which is occupied by Michael the porter.

Hi guys,
I'm interested in attending this LAN (which i just found out about today) just a few quick questions.
- I assume there will be no Internet connection?
- Is CS:S a popular game amongst the LANee's?
- If Inet connection is available, are you allowed to bring a Desktop + Laptop - running linux - for MSN/IRC/ICQ purposes?
Been to a few LANs myself in the past (however being a 100+ people iSeries and a 6500+ Dreamhack in Sweden where Internet was available or limited in some cases)
CaNNoN_FoDDa
12th October 2006, 13:05
1.
There is expected to be an internet connection, although this may turn out to be a) pure lies or b) intermittent.
2.
CS:S is popular, and some of our members are actually good at it.
3.
You can bring as many computers as you like, however you arent guaranteed to have desk space for all of them (if it gets busy). On the other hand, the venue is quite big and well supplied with tables, so that's not too likely.

Uuurrahh
12th October 2006, 13:15
lol :P Well it implies you have a life. So it may be good. I played sourceforts briefly although favourite Source based thing is definately GMod.
CaNNoN_FoDDa
12th October 2006, 13:17
Havent heard of that one. Think possibly the only reason im good at sourceforts is that it's so limited - making it harder for people who are good at fps in general and therefore leveling the playing field for complete tards like me.
PS: i'm also crap at this RL game
Stuart: yw, and welcome to Pause!
Uuurrahh
12th October 2006, 13:20
Yes you have. http://gmod.garry.tv/ :P And if you haven't :O, you'll like it.
Have you tried slower paced FPSes such as OFP [*waves flag*] and so on?
Muppet
12th October 2006, 13:22
I used to play OFP, got a tad boring eventually though. However! OFP2 can't be too far away now, maybe Q1/Q2 2007.
Uuurrahh
12th October 2006, 13:24
Armed Assault which is basically OFP2 [although technically it's OFP 1.5] is being released in the Czech Republic at the beginning of Nov, Germany on the 30th and the world sometime in the beginning of 2007. Getting me a German multilingual version.
OFP is shit unless you play it modded.
Muppet
12th October 2006, 13:30
Well that explains it lol.
Rather Codemasters waited till next year anyway to release it to coinside with Vista and DX10. Armed Assault seems alright, but still not OFP2!
CaNNoN_FoDDa
12th October 2006, 13:30
gmod looks vaguely intriguing, but i prolly should spend too much time reading about it just now as im at work and have a deadline.
Think i remember playing the demo for ofp when it first came out (back in the day), but the demo was bugged to hell and the game felt crap.
Uuurrahh
12th October 2006, 13:45
Codemasters aren't making proper OFP anymore. They've split from Bohemia Interactive [who are making Armed Assault and the subsequent "Game 2"].
And yes, the demo was incredibly shit. Even OFP 1.96 is shit but there's still a large community for the best game ever :P. Mods and so on have kept it alive.

I disagree with that! And i have MS Train sim rofl..
YegaDoyai
12th October 2006, 20:28
I was joking, I honestly thought that the train sim thing was a spoof when I first saw it. I never thought I'd speak to anyone that actually wanted to play it, let alone actually get it.
Have you played all the 'real' games before deciding that you like your interactivity with your computer reduced to the level of running macros in excel?

MS Ship sim too  Didn't buy, d/l it to satisfy my curiosity.

following the off-topicness of previous posts i would just like to state eve > all other games. if u thought it was a mining sim thats where u went wrong in our eve career :P
i'd also like to say all those that play eve should post in the eve topic in other games forum, maybe we have met each other! and by that i mean i probably killed you at some point :D
