FRESHERS FAIR HELPERS

Hey, I'm sure most of you know that Freshers Week is coming up soon. Officially set for the week of the 18th with I suspect 2 days for the fair. I've been setting things up with the SRC and QM over the last month, things are pretty much on track. Here's a quick run down of what I'm hoping for our freshers fair.

Most Important Issues

- New image, make a strong first impression
- Advertise the Freshers LAN (Oct) to the max. I want everyone to know us.
- Try and get some actual gaming in the fair

Things I have planned to help us with this

- Posters and banners to be designed and set off to my dad (free). Professional image for just time, how nice! In progress.

- T-shirts, custom ones for current members that want one. More on this later once we get prices etc. Hopefully give freshers the option of buying T-shirts on the day as well or maybe order custom ones.

- Pin-Badges would be great too. Shouldn't be too expensive and people could get them with membership? or should they be free?

- New website needs to be worked on and ready for the freshers fair. Serious work on this should be happening next week. Don't worry, everyone will be told when things are moving!

The table having a laptop and desktop linked up for Q4 1v1 or something equally quick. Let the freshers play each other! rather than me wipping everyone at Goldeneye again......

I'm going to have to stop for a bit. Will add more later.

Get the ideas coming!

Freshers’ Fair Stall Booking Confirmation for GU Pause Gaming

I am writing to you to confirm details of your booking of a stall at Glasgow University Freshers’ Fair 2006. Please read carefully through the information contained within this e-mail and contact me in the first instance if you have any queries. If subsequent to your initial booking, your society has decided not to be represented at the Fair, please let us know asap so that we can allocate your space to another group. The details of your booking are outlined below:

*** Dates & Times ***
Tuesday 19th & Wednesday 20th September. 10 am – 4pm. Set-up is from 9am on both days. You are welcome to leave your stall set up on Monday night, however will not accept liability for any losses incurred.

*** Location ***
Freshers’ Fair begins in the entrance hall of the Hunterian Museum, and continues through the Bute Hall. The SRC, GU, QM and GUSA will be round the corner in the Carnegie Room and there are plans to have live entertainment in the Senate Room through the event (unplugged entertainers of any variety are welcome to apply). There will also be a Poster Sale under the Cloisters.

*** About your Stall ***
Your Stall Number is: 40

Electricity Requested: True
If you have requested the use of Electricity, we recommend bringing an extension cable, plus adaptors and some Gaffa tape to stick down any trailing cables.

Your stall will consist of a table 120cm long, 60cm deep plus a backboard (for posters etc) 90cm wide, 210cm tall. Due to severe limitations of space you are likely to be right next to your neighbours with very little elbow room, so we would ask you to take this into consideration when planning your activities. If your group has a large membership, you may wish to consider organising a rota, rather than all turning up at once.

*** Rules & Regulations ***
POSTERS: Please respect the University when attending the fair and only place posters on the display boards provided. University policy strictly prohibits placing posters on University Avenue. Any costs incurred by the SRC will be passed on to those responsible.

OTHER EXHIBITORS: This year’s Fair has been very well subscribed with 90 separate stalls. Due to limitations of space, the stalls will be very close to each other, and we appreciate your efforts to peacefully co-exist with your neighbours. Whilst you may not agree with the views of other exhibitors, we ask that you respect their right to exhibit without harassment. If any person manning your stall is found to be in breach of this rule then you will be asked to leave the Fair.

MUSIC: You are permitted to play music at a reasonable volume. The Freshers’ Week Co-ordinator’s judgement will be final in regard to what constitutes an unreasonable volume..

MISCELLANEOUS: We are not going to patronise you by listing every minute thing you should not do, but would ask you kindly to exercise common sense wherever applicable. Any behaviour deemed inappropriate by the Freshers’ Week Co-ordinator will, in the worst case scenario, result in expulsion from the Fair.

I look forward to meeting you during Freshers’ Week and hope that it is successful for your group and a good laugh for your members. If you have any queries in the meantime or require any assistance on the day itself, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Best Regards,

Alan Govan

So we are number 40 and are going to be here,
Freshers Fair floor plan (http://www.pausegaming.com/images/Freshers/floor_plan_small.jpg)

We have very little room :( so I think one laptop only. Larry has volunteered to bring his laptop with him. The table we are getting is 120x60 which is not bad. We could have two laptops on there I suppose. Would anybody else be up for taking their laptop along?

I also need to know who can help out at the stall; I need a min of 3 and max of 5. Please post here and I’ll amend the list in the first post. If we have enough people we could do it in shifts. Any other ideas for the Freshers fair are most appreciated.

Currently the set up is as follows.

- Banners up on the back boards as below.

Flyers with info to hand out.

Membership cards + badges for people that have signed up

Various games being played on the laptop (maybe 1v1 is we can have two)

I'm declaring myself available on the 19th, if I get a job offer at this point (less than a weeks notice) I'll tell them to fuck off and die in a fire, can't start on Tuesday. =P

Also this could be helpful with drawing attention to the stall....fits in nicely, I think. (http://www.talklikeapirateday.com/wordpress/)

Me and gor will probably be kicking around. Could man the stall for a few hours if you want.

Great, it looks like we have enough hands on deck now. Anybody that wants to swing round and help out feel free to do so. If you don't have a t-shirt I'll have them with me so no problems there. :P

I have all of the banners and stuff now, they look fantastic! Only thing that still needs to be done is the flyers and sign up sheets (working on them now).
