Hello! Due to situations out of my control, we will not be able to have the projected LAN on this date. The SRC Freshers Week people are using the Williams Room until October and the John MacIntyre Hall is being refurbished. This means we cannot have a LAN free of room hire during August or September. I have been trying to get a room somewhere else in the University with no luck. During summer most uni buildings close at 5:00pm and do not open at all at weekends. We could rent a room at the weekend but it's going to cost us janitor overtime etc. The situation is much the same with the QM and GU.

Members wanting to host a LAN are welcome to do so, I shall do my best to try and help you out. I would be willing to host a LAN at my flat again but I shall not be round to help both in Aug and Sept. I shall post again when I know if this is possible or not. :(

On the bright side however, the other dates are booked in and ready. :)

2006 Dates

August 5th - 6th - CANCELLED
September 2nd - 3rd - CANCELLED

Sorry guys,

Niall

What's the Ironman tournament again?

The Ironman tournament will require a vast amount of organising: Picking games, getting everyone signed up, making sure everyone has said games, creating a normalised scoring system over all those games, and then running each individual round. None of which I'm interested in doing this lan - obviously anyone else can do it, if they want to.

I will be running the 2v2 DoW tourny though, so get your build-orders sorted and your micro down.

Aaron: If it was always on the second weekend of the month, would that suit you better?

Everyone else: Would switching to the second weekend screw you up?

Nope, because I work every other weekend and the calendar we use doesn't fit that schedule I will always miss some. If we worked it on an "every 4 weeks" basis or something similar that would either be perfect or useless.

K, I'm off to book these dates now. I'll try and see if we can get hold of the better tables as well, no promises there though. :?

I see no reason why I shouldn't be able to make it.

Right
I went to the SRC today to book the dates I put up in the LAN Announcement forum. However, we can't book Aug and Sept because of two things....

1. Williams Room is being used by the SRC Student Recruitment folks and Freshers week people. Totally off limits until Oct.

2. John Mac Hall is also out of bounds as it's being refurbished! Won't be ready until at least Oct.

I have booked the following dates anyway.

October 7th - 8th - (Freshers Event)
November 4th - 5th
December 2nd - 3rd

with Friday's to setup.

I had a little chat with the nice man from Central Booking Services and found out a little about getting a room with them. Two major problems.

1. Only 9 to 5:30 is available during the week
2. Not at all at the weekend unless we pay for janitor overtime! :?

Basically, it wouldn't be possible as we wouldn't be able to setup before hand. Anybody got any great ideas? I would be fine with getting a room booked somewhere else, but it's going to cost even more money and we just can't afford it.

I think we are going to have to put it off for now, with the possibility of having another LAN at my flat. It gives lots of time to get the October LAN together and make it a real corker! So I suppose it's not all bad. We'll be all dying for a big LAN by then for sure!
