Since Ru, done something on DOW. I think i should share with you guys a little fact about starcraft :). I will talk about hte basic units of each race.

Which one of them are the best ?

Well for beginners "Protoss" , by far is the easiest to play, just because the first unit you get is a zealot but expensive.

They have alot of health, and they are strong as well :). So for a new comer they can use them both of attcking and defending with ease.

You can try to build probes , pylon and gateway and keep getting zealots, that will usually win you games against other newcomers as well.

Secondly zerg, they are cheap , fast, but units are generally weaker, if you lack the micro. Now we come to zerglings , you can perform alot of different little trick with them, once you past the basic of the game. Indeed they are very usful at rushing, also they will eat up marines if is done right.

Beware when you playing against protoss, zealots will kill zerglings very easily.

Lastly my favourite race "terran" , you can say they have the best of both, but the downside they lack the mobility.

they may have a range unit to start with, but yet weakest of them all. But with the right micro they could be deadly in early , mid and late game.

This race will be very hard to use to become good at it.

But once is done perfectly, some people say they are the best, but since no one is perfct so that will be impossible.

If anyone is interested into other stuff ^^ feel free to ask :)

hey ming, on the insistance of Iain and co I have been trying SC lately. Any tips for the noobs, how to balance expansion vs military etc would be great. At the moment I'm playing the single player campain to find out what the units do and what the tech tree is. Any advice on where the single player campain is good or bad for learning the basics?

the campaign mode is pretty well made for new comers.

Some mission u could play for them once, is those one where they give u a set of units and u need to do somehting find someone. They will be good getting used to each units.

And as for expanding, don't worry too much about it just now :). Just expand everytime u ahev extra money. And just build alot of defensive buidling to help you out.

two very small tips, 1) never stop buidling workers till late game
2) usd the "a" key to attack, just keep one fingure on it, like when u want to attack a base, just slect the bunch of units , click a and click on the ground near the base.

then the units will attack everything on the way there.

And how liking the game :P? addicitive ^^?

A rough outline of your early game build. Not great, since you need to tune for each race, but it'll give you a good start:

Select base->Build Worker

Select the 4 workers outside your base, and send them to the mineral patches. Note: You will gain resources faster if you send each worker to it's own patch.

Never stop building workers! The optimum amount is 2-3 per mineral patch.

At 8 control build Supply Depot|Pylon|Overlord

At 10 control build Barracks|Gateway|Spawning Pool

Build Refinery|Assimilator|Extractor whenever you can afford it. Once it's finished assign 3 workers to it (a 4th will provide a marginal gain, a 5th will do nothing)

Now your build can diverge to whatever tech you want. If you want to be aggresive build another Barracks|Gateway|Hatchery at 12. Doing this lets you pump out your basic infantry unit. If you are doing this you can forego the Refinery|Assimilator|Extractor for a while. To tech just build Factory|Cybernetics Core|Lair (Lair is an upgrade for your Hatchery). However, you should start producing infantry as soon as you can, or you may face a problem when someone elses units arrive at your base.

some really basic build orders for new comers if you were play against computers 1v1 or someone that is new.

I'll start with the easiest.

Protoss - 1. Keeping getting probes till you reach 7,
2. Build a pylons not far from your base
3. Keep building probes till you have 10
4. build a gateway.
5. keeping building probes and a pylon ( near the entrance of your base)
6. build a zealots and a forge ( so you can build cannons)
7. build some cannons at the entrance for defense( don't over do it)
8. build zealots add gateways and go higher in the tech tree

Zerg - 1. Keep getting drones till you reach 9
2. build an overlord
3, while overlord is building get a spawning pool
5. keep on getting drones.
6. once the spawning pool is finished, get some zerg lings and 1 or 2 sunkens around your base
7. getting another hatery (near your entrance) and 1 or sunken there and a hydralisk den(any where save)
8. keeping getting zerg lings and hydralisk. (remeber to upgrade faster zerglings movement , faster hydralisk movement and longer range for hydralisk), upgrade only when you feel comfortable.

Terran - 1. keeping getting scv till you reach 8
2. build supply depot then keeping getting scv till 10
3. builld a barracks
4. when barracks is done get marines and build a bunker at the entrance of the base
5. when is to do so get a second barracks
6. next acdemy
7. upgrade when you feel comtable
8 futher on in the game, go higher in the tech tree, mainly for tanks ( but not always)

Hope it helps ^^ there are just so you don't die from coms first attack and you will have some units to pay around at the same time.

Shhhhutup Ming! How are we gonna win, if you tell them all how to play properly?

I'd suggest building cannons/bunker/sunken in the mineral line (amongst the workers), rather than at the base entrance - if they build at the choke and the enemy get past them (and not all maps even *have* a choke) then they're gonna get bummed.

hmm... yeah if u play against human.

Computers is too stupid to run throught something,.

Their AI is like, attack at first sight :P.

Just want to put bit and bobs up, so some people might get interested ^^.

OH yeah.

If you play against Zerg, is worth building defensive building along side the minerals lines.

Also, best to try protoss vs zerg/protoss, they are the easiest to play when you are new :).
