I should have it by the time of the LAN. Don't know if we want to play it - since no-one will know what they are doing :) From the demo, it's like old school Age of Empires - all about building big castles and fortifications.

Wooooo! I like building stuff. Better than Empire at War then?

Is EaW the Star Wars RTS? The really piss-poor one?

aye, that's the one. You get to control Darth on a battle field and other nonsense.

I have it!

It's actually REALLY fun to arse around with, especially the space battles.

Fuck tactics though, I seem to be winning most Me VS. Computer battles in space by spamming Y Wings (for destroying space stations and big ships) and a relatively small backup of X Wings and / or a Calamari Cruiser or two if I'm advanced enough. =D

Yeah the demo certainly gave the impression of it being shallow. Has anybody actually tried Battle for Middle Earth 2 yet?

Oh yeah, that.

BEEFME as it is called in the vernacular..

Played it a few times at Microplay and it's pretty fun, but a team of Mordor + Elves seems able to rape everything because Mordor can uber-up and find the ring, which gives them Sauron as an available Hero Character, he destroys most buildings in a few hits and rapes EVERYTHING, all you need then is the elven part of the team to use the Heal magic ability to keep him alive (just in case).

It's generally good fun, as long as no-one rushes, it's great for big loooong games.

What is the actual building base stuff like? As fun as Age of Empires 2? Is the game actually balanced?

Not that it stops us playing DoW......

Well you spam one or two buildings mainly, your variant on a "farm", where you place it is important since there's a percentage which tells you how efficiently it'll gather resources, this will also be your primary supply of command points (your upper limit on troops), and with certain races you can get lumber mills which gather extra resources from trees.

...ummmm

Fuck this, come into Microplay sometime and yell "DOES ANYONE WANT TO BEEFME?", they'll know what you mean. =P

just got the game, seems good so far, especially loving the 'make your own hero' feature. anyone got any tips for multiplayer? strategies? early hero rush ? spam troops? Go all out for farms??

I found an uber-tactic today in Microplay. =P

Create a custom Elf character, max out Power and Range (listed as Distance or something) and spread any spare around armour/health/regen, give him LOTS of talents related to archery and something like self-heal, maybe even whirlwind (ideally you want him to have as MUCH archery bonus as possible), then use him when playing as the Elves and upgrade your fortress with things like healing, get mirkwood archers and upgrade them ASAP, the hero + a few groups of Mirkwoods = PWN.

For example, with the hero described and three units of upgraded Mirkwood archers (once the hero was Level 10) I successfully destroyed an attacking army including THREE Level 10 heros and at least 15 other units (lots of cavalry to try and rush my archers, held them off with my heros whirlwind. =D).

However Mirkwoods may be nerfed in the next patch as they're pretty overpowered atm, so this technique probably won't hold up so well without a LOT more archers in future.
