I just sat and racked up all the Assault unlocks, flashbangs FTW! =D
Then I got my DAO12 just for when I'm asked to nab AT.

if you have flashbangs... (which are awesome) that sort of implies you have the F2000... but i know noone with any self respect would ever use the noobtube... ...right???

Yes, why don't I just use inferior weaponry instead of a gun I fought hard to earn?

On thursday I'll be hosting a server of BF2 for a piss about. Currently Internet games hosted on our server are hitting the 80-100ping mark but with w2k3 installed I'm hoping to see where the performance issue is. Likely it is just from the ISP however so not much I'll be able to do about it.
server IP will be: 87.81.62.172
default port
Password: DAve (unless shitloads of randoms stumble across this site and flood my poor server)

The patch won't affect us joining Yega's server, it'll probably mess up the next weeks session though.
When is the 1.20 patch out?

It got delayed so they could fix the Red/Blue bug. Looks like it will be out soon though: EA news (http://www.ea.com/official/battlefield/battlefield2/us/editorial.jsp?src=communityupdate_021306)
And I said 1.20 because it (allegedly) cripples the F2000, thus reducing it from noobtoob status.

The IP has been the same since we got the connection, the DDNS thing actually timed out as it was never being used (i don't know if I can force our router to refresh) anyway, it never changed so the router never told the DDNS people what the new one was so it is now gone and we have a static domain at:
yegadoyai.game-host.org
or the above IP

EA have released the BF2 1.20 patch (http://www.ea.com/official/battlefield/battlefield2/us/downloads.jsp) now. 357 meg worth
llist of Boogs squooshed here (http://www.3dgamers.com/dlselect/games/battlefield2/bf2_incr_patch_1.12-1.2.txt)
They've got an upgrade for a 1.12 users too. A measly 85 meg.
EA download servers will be badly hit, please use other links and bittorrents if possible. (well, if you want a decent download rate, anyway)

- host of kit adjustments - sniper, support, addition of AT / sniper unlocks
- Sa80 and G3A3 has been adjusted
- Ranks have now been expanded to allow for players to rank up to General
- The UAV that is placed by Commanders will now include a visual element. Players will be able to shoot it down, bringing the UAV detection to a premature end.

Hi there,
I am new to this forum and this is my first post - I was directed here from UK-Scenario by my good friend Andy from the SPC. I am a student currently studying at the Glasgow School of Art.
Anyhoo, I am interested in joining you guys for the game this coming Friday. What would I need to do so?
Cheers

A PC which can run Battlefield 2, a copy of Battlefield 2, a decent internet connection, microphone and teamspeak are the only real requirements that I know of, I'll very possibly get corrected though.

After playing about I've found the L96 is an M24 clone in everything but sound effect.
The M95 is now dead on accurate while retaining it's 1 shot kills ability. Stopping an entire 6 man squad at 200 metres is now stupidly easy.
If you go up in a helicopter you will now die. Every. Single. Time. :)

lies. if you go up in a helicopter you will gain twice as much satisfaction in the sheer ownage you dish out from your supposedly nerfed killing machine. helis are still NUTS. as i discovered this evening, earning an expert combat badge. 40 kills /one round. aaah the Mi-28.
the support weapons seem sweet now, you can *gasp* actually hit stuff!?!?!

Helicopters have been significantly nerfed, they're now about as dangerous as your average tank instead of the frag-monkeys vehicle of choice that it was in the past.
Blackhawks being used for transport? Madness! :o
So far I've managed to down helicopters using:
Stinger emplacements
AT troops rocket launcher
.50 cal on a jeep
Tanks main gun
M95 sniper rifle (ok, I just shot the pilot)
It's a vast improvement and a much welcomed balance.
--Mogwai--
16th February 2006, 04:16
these were all fully capable of taking down helis pre-patch? along with TOW emplacements, and well and gun in the game assuming the heli is near-dead enough. ( took down a cobra with a G36C before.. lol. admittedly with a lot of help...)
the only noticeable differences with the attack heli are in the pilots firepower... 8 rockets instead of 14 makes them next to useless, and the fact that stinger sites lock on stupidly fast now, before AND after deploying flares, so you have to retreat/repair more often. all the changes make them marginally less effective, but not enough to balance them.
blackhawks on the other hand... totally screwed. the guns went from instant death + aimbot to ..well, nothing. mashtuur as MEC is actually fun now...

I'm not 100% on the tank one - I've definitely killed a chopper in a tank, but whether tha last thing to hit it was the main gun or the machine gun I don't recall.
I never play AT.
But anyway, I'm totally for the balancing of the choppers - the main gun on the tank should kill a chopper with one hit, not just soften it up a little.
I think I was confused as to the rocket reduction though - is it the pilot controlled rockets that got reduced? I figured it'd be the TVs... if it's the pilot's ones, then good pilots will not really be affected, since they were last resort weapons anyway.

yah the pilot rocket pods went from 14 before reloading to only 8. the tv-guided missiles for the gunner stay the same power/ number, tthough possibly with shorter range i think?

That's pretty much it. We play mostly on the EA UK official servers, but get the server on the night from the Teamspeak channel: the following details (courtesy of Happydan):
IP: 70.84.228.202:8868

Oh yeah, patch up to the BF2 version 1.20 - I think we'll all be using that by now.
If you want to see what names to look out for / dive for cover from, then we've got a handy BF2 name list (http://guns.snakebomb.com/bf2stats.php) on the GUNS website.
If you can't get the server details, get one of us on MSN: me, sideshow, YegaDoyai, bluepixie, Fyndir or anyone online that posts on the BF2 forum category should be able to help you there.
See you on the battlefield!

k, just a reminder for this evening. As of 7pm local time yegadoyai.game-host.org or 87.81.62.172 will be hosting a 16 player BF2 mess about.
There will be VoIP available in game, but also available via our TS server at the same address.
Ummm.... actually the patches are taking an AGE to update I'll see if it's ready by 8
Sorry

ok guys, i think the time has come to actually bother gettingmyself BF2 Sepcial Forces expansion . but!!! as im about to gain a rank/unlock in regular BF2, if i install special forces just before , then earn the unlock from regular BF2, will that give me a spec forces unlock as well? or do i have to spend time actually playing on ranked spec forces servers to earn the SCAR-L, G36E etc???? any help appreciated, really want some new guns to play with come 8pm this evening!!!!!

Larry, when you install Spec Forces, you'll get like 7 unlocks given to you.

Dude, I would advise you to save your unlock until AFTER you have installed Special Forces, just to be safe!
My understanding is that the new weapons are freely available to use on specific SF maps (this also depends on the team); but to use them on all games would require unlocking as per usual.
I'd recommend the G36e btw ;-)

There are a load of new weapons in Spec Forces, for when you are playing Spec Forces. It also adds 1 new unlock to each class in regular BF2. You can only unlock these if you have already unlocked the normal unlock for that class. As soon as you install Spec Forces you get N-2 unlocks given to you, where N is the number of unlocks you already have*. You may need to run around and kill someone in a game to trigger the unlock mechanism.
* Possibly more - 1.20 gave me 2 unlocks when I installed it.

I've taken down a chopper with a pistol before. Bet that confused the pilot.
Tanks are good at taking down choppers. One shell, then hose them with the machine guns. Only trouble is that they have to be at a certain angle. The tanks have limited elivation.

It already had one. Only AT and Sniper were short. And, uh, I dunno what it is - maybe some variant of the G36? ...goes to look at BF2S... G36E. If it the burst fire variant the SAS get, it's pretty damn good.

How is that possible? Taking a chopper down with a pistol? You should get a badge for that :D
--Mogwai--

any gun can take down a heli im pretty sure... even pistols do a miniscule amount of damage, and if its already on fire and about to explode on its own (below 3 bars of armour/health), the last person to shoot it gets the kills, even if it is destroyed primarily because its in flames.
anyone fancy being my pilot this evening for a bit? having a heli gunner/pilot both on teamspeak would be cool. it almost worked last time with peter until my TS connection timed out..

When there's a more than a squad of us, it's better to use the in game VOIP, rather than having everyone hear your chatter. I don't want to be trying to take a flag while hearing 'Down! Down-left! Nice shot! Crap, these TV missiles have 0 range now. TREES TREES TREES!'
hairyhen
17th February 2006, 13:14
Yup I could do that for a while, until you find someone else or discover that I am crap at piloting, lol.
Seriously tho, I consider myself to be 'not bad' at piloting the choppers. The only difficulty I found was knowing which direction to point for the target; but with teamspeak it should be alright!
Anyway, grab me in-game should you need a pilot!

Ha! Totally called it!
From the little I played, Warlord is pretty damn good. I didn't really like the night-time castle map, but then all the night time missions are quite a large departure from normal BF2, so it may just require some acclimatisation.
