View Full Version : Blood Bowl Division 2 Signup thread

Post in here if you want to play in the second division. No-one has to, it's purely optional for coaches who already have teams in division 1. Anyone else who wants to join in the blood bowl fun can by starting a team here. Plenty of time before division 2 starts: a fortnight.

Post here and pick a race. As before, the division will be highlander, so only one of each race allowed. Collisions will be handled amicably if possible, and then randomly if necessary.

Lol, we were really close to getting double Highlander until Charles went Chaos ;P

Just to reserve on his behalf, Aaron mentioned to me he fancied Lizardmen, obviously wait for his confirm tho :)

Just so you all know, undead are the brokezorz. Go them. Im not playing since Im purely casual and have commitment issues. :D

GingerPrinz
11th February 2009, 00:49
OK on thinking it over I would really like to go Lizards. Aaron I know you said it to me first so you've got first shout. Failing that I still want to go more of a "banter"/tricky team, so I might Vamp it up.

gor
13th February 2009, 13:25
right go on then, you shower of shites.

suggest a race that will reignite the bb passion in my decimated heart and I will play.

Khemri? :P

High Elves!

Seriously, a race that plays a different game from Chaos. A change is as good as a rest. HEs are awesome.

Sideshow

High-elves = easy to play humans. I suggest you join the pro's, and try wood elves.

GingerPrinz
13th February 2009, 14:02
Dunno man, I rolled Zons to try a dodgier, less bashy team (at the time I didn't realise Zons were a bash team) and AV7 desTROYED me. I think it's a very high risk to play primarily av7 teams in this kind of short format league where you WILL come up against bashy teams before you've got the skills to cancel the constant knockdowns out. That said, if Aaron ever reappears and decides he wants lizards, I'll be right back in that AV7 zone.

Sideshow
13th February 2009, 15:30
Amazon's aren't a bashy team, they aren't an anything team, which is their problem. You don't have the agility to play like an elf team and you don't have the armour to play like a bashy team. I couldn't make hear nor tail of how to play Norse effectively, and Amazons are worse.

gor
13th February 2009, 16:02
sack wood elf and their av 7. I'll try dark-elves.

GingerPrinz
13th February 2009, 16:31
Amazon are described in almost all strategy articles as a hybrid team with the emphasis on bash, because all of your players start with dodge so your knockdowns are limited, you defend deep and swarm key targets, before dodging away next turn (if needed). A sole Zon is amazing at keeping targets pinned, specially if they don't have block. The main problem is that AV7 means that when you do go down, you're likely to stay there. Usual tactics apply tho, get an important guy on the ground and assist-foul him, develop your linemen early, get block on all your guys asap etc etc. The fact that you get 4 blodgers off the bat, plus 1 more each time a guy skills, makes you naturally turn towards bashing rather than running - unless you're playing Khemri in which case just outrun them asap :P

They would have a poor time playing against dwarves I imagine

Baron_Greenback
13th February 2009, 18:13
All the strat guids say that too:

against dwarves -- give up zons are going to loose. and loose badly

GingerPrinz
13th February 2009, 18:13
They do not love dwarves no, it's not an autoloss, since longbeards are slow, but it's certainly their toughest matchup. They tend to excel in low TR matches because everyone else will have max 1 tackler.

Captain_Caveman
13th February 2009, 20:01
I have returned, been working lots this week and been busy. I was thinking lizardmen however if Gingerprinz wants em I will take the Woodelves if no-one else wants em for something entirely different. Otherwise I shall take Amazons

Jesus, don't let him have woodelves; with his luck he'll be unstoppable.

Updated the original post (http://forum.pausegaming.com/showpost.php?p=34032&postcount=1) with everyone's choices. Twonky v Gingerprinz should wrap up tonight, so we can start division 2 in a couple of days. If you want to change your team selection now is the time to do it!

GingerPrinz
16th February 2009, 14:35
Is Smee Eric? Who is Borderline? Also are these coaches getting to make d1 teams too?

TK-Maximus
16th February 2009, 14:52
Borderline is Jonathan Anderson.

Smee... Is that Evil dave?

Sideshow
16th February 2009, 15:44
Tk has it. They can't make D1 teams - they make D2 teams, and at the end of the season promote them.

GingerPrinz
16th February 2009, 16:34
Is Jonathan Anderson Jon, as in Jon of Jon's flat? If so kickass. Evil dave I'm not sure if I've met...?

Baron_Greenback
16th February 2009, 18:16
Jon is indeed Mr Anderson.

However, If he plays in the league and manages to actually make a game each week I will :

1) buy an electric train kit from ebay.
2) cover the trains in mustard and onions
3) eat them in a bun like sausages.

Baron_Greenback
16th February 2009, 18:17
Evil Dave is a little malevolent force of nature.

I prophesy that he will forget the ball and concentrate on doing as much damages as possible. You'll see a foul each and every turn even if he doesn't have the ref.

Even numbers means no bye weeks.

Where's Pixie? Wasn't he getting in on this?

Failing that, Aaron could convince George or Ailsa tomorrow?

GingerPrinz
18th February 2009, 21:13
It's not a bye - you just dont play a game. Pixie said ages ago he was gonna give it a trym but never did. I called him out in my first post and he never responded because a) he doesn't read the blood bowl posts and/or b) he's a gigantic chicken!!

are the new folk confirmed and perfectly clear that its 100% on-time attendance ? i'd rather they didn't play at all if its going to be half-hearted from anyone

EDIT: for example, why are they signed in this thread having not posted in it?

Bluepixie
19th February 2009, 17:22
However, I do want to try it out. How much time would it take? How many hours we talking here?

twonky
19th February 2009, 17:26
most games take about 2 hours and you only have to play once a week

Sideshow
19th February 2009, 17:26
A game takes around an hour and a half if you're playing against a normal person. Maybe 2 hours if against twonky. You'd only have to play one game a week, and so far everyone has been very eager to play; we've had no problems with people not getting their game in time (we even skipped a week because all games were in a week-and-a-half in advance). Give me, pit or mogwai a shout tomorrow night or on the weekend and we can get you set up for a trial game.

EDIT: lol @ twonky's ninja post

twonky
19th February 2009, 17:33
Key word about

GingerPrinz
19th February 2009, 17:51
Pixie get involved!! 2hrs per week max!1!!

Nobody listens to Dave... It's impossible for games to exceed 158 minutes, but realistically you're usually done in half that time. Especially if you get Java 6 Update 6 which runs the client at a great speed. That said if you just want to dip in and out, maybe a ladder team might be better, though I think you'd have more fun in the league tbh

Sideshow
19th February 2009, 18:46
above would be true if the time limit actually did anything. Since it doesn't, games can feasibly go on forever.

GingerPrinz
19th February 2009, 19:22
Oh doesnt it? I just assumed it made u end turn at the 4 mins if you had run out of overtime

--Mogwai--
19th February 2009, 19:43
really, the 4 minute turn-timer is for the tabletop top game, where you have to pick up and move every player individually and physically roll dice.

if you regularly take 4 minutes to complete a fumbbl turn, you probably are retarded to some degree. ( or just being incredibly unsporting by playing so slowly)

To0
20th February 2009, 11:39
There is a standalone version of the client/server to play on a single machine. I'll see if I can get it working over the course of the LAN and get a recruitment drive going.

GingerPrinz
20th February 2009, 11:53
It's not something you really need to get working tbh - just open the JAR, load 2 preset teams and play. THing is tho, as Mogwai addressed, we don't just want people seeing it, going "ooh interesting" then losing interest 3 games later because they get hammered, or because something shiny distracts them. Ironically I think you'd do better recruiting at that Conflagration thing lol.

OK, think we're about ready to rock and roll. Everyone has a unique race, as you can see in the OP, so off you go and make your team up. Post a link to your completed team here and I'll add it to the Division group. We kick off on Sunday, or as soon as I get all the teams, whichever comes first.

Also a quick question to the new folk for D2 - who I believe are To0, Smee and Borderline. Can you all make sure that there is a way to contact you to arrange the matches? Ideally MSN, failing that enable PMs on the forum and check it regularly

I would like to note an objection to people changing teams after the draw has been made and gmaes have been played.

i would like to note an objection also.

but if that's whats allowed, it will cancel out my objection to being asked to not play a 'violent' team... in this case, 2 wrongs will make a right for me :)

I would like to note an objection to people changing teams after the draw has been made and gmaes have been played.

If you can post the reason you're objecting then that might help your argument.

Mogwai: I asked you not to play Ogres or Khemri because having multiple guys with huge St and MB will only serve to destroy people's teams and screw up the division. I don't want to see anyone (especially the new guys) sickened to the point of quitting.

GingerPrinz
28th February 2009, 13:55
This division is turning into a bit of a farce tbh. With about 28 hours to Week 1 deadline half the teams aren't in the division on fumbbl yet, 2 games have been played, no-one is communicating, people are changing teams after the first match has already been played, let's catch a freakin grip guys...

EDIT: Oh yeah, I totally see Pit's point btw, nobody in the league should be able to do something that someone else in the league can't do - even if there is no immediate percievable advantage to what they did. It guarantees to keep it fair for everyone. Pit and I would not have had the option to change our teams since we already played, hence noone should be allowed to.
