Am I able to retire my team now and play a fresh one for game 2.
My team has been rendered unplayable.
Sideshow
12th January 2009, 00:27
Not as the league was laid out, you're supposed to play through adversity! Larry is down two men same as you, while I'm down one.
TK-Maximus
12th January 2009, 00:32
Yes, but larry has a viable team on the board having gotten 2 skillups and I don't.
I'll give it some consideration, but atm I see no point in me sitting through 2 hours of someone else murdering my squad, so i would be better just conceeding each match.
--Mogwai--
12th January 2009, 00:39
elves can play with 9 surely, and you've still all the important players left :)
fingers crossed we get paired up next round...
twonky
12th January 2009, 16:58
How are the pairings made
drawn out of the hat or does Sideshow just decide on a week by week basis who he wants to play
Baron_Greenback
12th January 2009, 17:46
Maybe it would have been a good idea to have bought some spare players?
You pays your moneys and you take your chances. I guess even a linesman is an expensive proposition for elves.
Sideshow
12th January 2009, 17:57
The pairings are decided randomly. Everyone will play everyone once in a random order, then everyone will play everyone again, in a random order. The random order is generated by a program, and I only ask it a week at a time, so no-one knows who they are playing next, not even me.
gor is actually away for the week, which I didn't know or I wouldn't have started without him. As such, we'll delay his game v baron greenback til he gets back.
--Mogwai--
13th January 2009, 13:33
shouldnt the pairings for at least the first half of the season be made? it could matter for picking skills, if you knew what the run of opponents was going to be. might add an extra strategic element?
Captain_Caveman
13th January 2009, 14:13
I need not know what my opponent is, I know what skills to pick GUARD!!!! :D
Sideshow
13th January 2009, 14:44
There's a strategic element either way, and I think more-so the way it is now, which adds an element of chance (which is very BB in nature). For example, I'm planning on giving most of my line-elves Dodge as their first pick skill. However, Dodge will be useless against the dwarves, so do I try and pick the misc skills first (Kick, DP, etc) hoping that I'll meet the dwarves in the next couple of games, or do I just get on with the Dodging and accept that my elves will be horribly underskilled if we meet dwarves in game 5?
GingerPrinz
13th January 2009, 15:25
I think in future seasons the fixture list for the season should be viewable from team creation. For instance all of these teams with 10 or 9 men might well have gotten an extra member or two if they knew they were gonna be playing bashy teams. I certainly would appreciate knowing in advance when I'm gonna be playing Nurgle so I can get a lineman or two extra as opposed to another positional player.
Sideshow
13th January 2009, 15:44
Well, it was pretty clear from the roster that there were bashy teams (n/m that BB is systemically bashy), but you actually can't start an elf team with more than 11 players (unless you sacrifice FF and RRs, which is a really bad idea).
If you want to be prepared for your next opponent, then don't spend your cash immediately after games, wait til your next match and spend before it. You're gonna be playing Nurgle, Chaos and Dwarves, plus Larry's Dark Elves: if you think you need extra linemen for bashy teams then get them now.
--Mogwai--
13th January 2009, 16:20

My team... not included in league... I think I've figured out how it works... maybe... umm... :)
Anyway, for a cup tournament you wouldnt know your fixtures, it'd be random. But for a league match you should know your fixtures in advance, I should think. Which would definitely help planning appropriate choices for a league season.

14th January 2009, 01:30
Brialzebub add me on MSN (contact details on my profile) and give me a shout when you want a ladder match. I have a fresh Orc team that will be a good matchup for your team (they've only played 1 game).

My team hates orcs. They tend to lose players more to orcs than any other team (well, apart from undead)... eeep
(by that I mean, I have actual Norse bloodbowl miniatures, and back in the day they'd get creamed often, but most often by orcs)

Just a heads up about setting up your games: the proxy servers are pretty terrible; adding an extra layer in which Thing Can Go Wrong and also going down regularly. No-one wants a disconnection in the middle of their game (it borks the replay for one thing), so you are much better off joining directly to the player who is serving. However, this is tricker to set up for that player: in order to set your machine up to be directly joined you need to fanny around with your router: 1st, find out what your local IP address is for your pc (in network settings, or 'ipconfig' at a cmd prompt). Then go into your router's control panel (usually through a web browser) and have it forward a port to that ip (I usually use 8082). While you are in your routers control panel, have a look on it's status page to see what your internet IP address is.
Now when you are starting your game on fumbbl, select No Proxy from the drop down, and change the port to the one you forwarded and start the server. The player connecting has to select no proxy, and put in your internet IP address as the host name, along with the port you chose before hitting join. Hope some of you can get this working, it's a ton more stable than using the proxies.

As was talked about in the pub (and alluded to by the thread title) I was angling toward running more than one division. Primarily this was to allow fresh teams to feed into the premier division, either as replacements for current coaches or to allow other coaches to join in. Originally the idea was to start the first season of division 2 at the same time as division 1 started it's second season, but I think that the gap between in time and SPPs is too large doing it that way, so: How about we have division 2 (and it's successors) running on a single-match round-robin basis - everyone plays everyone else once, so effectively half the length of the premier division, and start it at the mid-season point that's coming up for division one (when everyone in division one has played everyone else once). From then on, just before any season begins a coach may swap his team with a team in another division which is about to begin a season.
Does that make sense? Div 2 would be purely optional, so would be for any new players wanting to join in, and for current players who'd like/are able to play more than one game a week. Who wants to?

For sure count me in. I was wondering when/if you were gonna implement Div 2. One quick question - how would new coaches advance to Div1? Would it be a case of TR cap, or lowest guy goes down highest comes up (providing ofc that the player with the high team doesn't already have a team in that division)?
Sideshow
4th February 2009, 16:45
It wouldn't be like the real world with a set forced promotion/relegation. Coaches would be free to swap teams between the divisions as they see fit. We could put in mandatory promotion for teams who have already played a season in the division they are in and where their coach doesn't have a team in the next division up.
GingerPrinz
4th February 2009, 17:14
Sounds totally sweet. Hope we do get some new folks in, I've been doing my darndest to recruit some fresh blood. Ru and Brialzabub should join too, surely they can manage one game a week!! What're you saying boys?
TK-Maximus
5th February 2009, 13:59
I'm certainly up for Div 2. The Guild of Colegiate Investors is somewhat dead. (Soon to be deader. Gor! Nooooo! Owww Owww My Face!)
How will you cope with the Highlander duplications?
Sideshow
5th February 2009, 14:03
When we start Div 2 we'll make team selection for it highlander. After that we'll let teams move freely. The point of highlander was to get a good spread of teams, rather than half a dozen squads of Orks fighting each other. So while we may end up with a couple of the same race in a division, it'll still be diverse enough to be interesting.

Half way through the season! Looking at the scores, we see that while Soul and Sword have been leading since the beginning, they haven't managed to establish a sizable lead, and in fact any of the top 6 teams have a good shot of coming out ahead with a strong performance in the second half. Double Edged Sword and Groshbag's Running Sores don't even have to hope for Mogwai to have a bad match, they can claim victory purely through the virtue of their own skills.
Post your memorable moments. Mine would be Bowed One, Titania's Kiss #1, refusing to go down against an engulfing swarm of Dwarves hell bent on his destruction, staying on his roots long enough to hold up 5 opposing players before finally going down.
