When you say Friday you mean Friday the 11th right ???
If it is then I should have my internet connection by then, count me in.
Ok time for some dum questions then:
Do you guys all have mics to talk to each other during the game ?
How will I find the server?
Who is going to be in comand of the squads?
Sideshow
8th November 2005, 13:25
Yes, that's what he means.
How good is the in-game voice com in BF2? I'd prefer to use it, rather than a 3rd party like Ventrilo, if it's possible.

BF2 voice comms are bollocks.
Ventrilo all the way.
Rar.

The reason we will NOT be using the outside comms is because you get to much chatter, play nice and we can get the comms stuff sorted so you will know what to do rather than everyone just screaming LAGGGG!!!!!. And the initial BF2ness should be moved up because I'm bursting to play it.

After I've been to the shops with my dad I'll be looking to play, anyone else who's playing sort out a server to play on between you and email me the IP so I can come join you as soon as I can.

For those that were not present it went like this:
Me and Pixie get net connection (Much dancing)
We organise a BF2 match and folk join us. (Much dancing)
My BF2 gays up and dies. (Much dancing from Pixie as he gets a gold star for not doing anything - the round ended as we joined and he managed to be placed first)
Spend rest of evening fixing networking problems to find that it's actually just BF2 being gay. (much slumping)
Everyone else stops playing because I'm not there to keep the team spirit up. (Or something like that.)
Conclusion
BF2 = GAY
I thank you for your time.
PS
For all political correct folk out there replace Gay with Spazy :)

Patch it.
EA decided they were too good for auto-patching.
Or telling people about patches.
Or being useful...

You'll need to install Teamspeak 2 (ftp://ftp.freenet.de/pub/4players/teamspeak.org/releases/ts2_client_rc2_2032.exe)
It'd be handy if you were on MS Messenger. My ID is: iainking70@hotmail.com
Make sure you have BF2 patched up to the latest version. (You don't need to install the intermediate steps, just installing the newest patch is fine)
Oh - for teamspeak you'll (obviously) need a headset with a mic. This is pretty necessary for communcation in-game.

I don't get the need for TS, I find the BF2 VOIP fine.
Also when I joined TS yesterday I couldn't join any of the channels, said something about needing to be registered?
Sideshow

That's what I said. But TS is more for getting set up than actual play. Passing IPs of servers, etc.

Psh, it's not my fault. =(
I can find most of them, it's just strange 'cause sometimes some of them claim they don't exist..
and if I try to do the name of server searches the entire list clears and won't come back until I restart BF2. =/

Yeah, the list dissapearing thing happens to me too. I try not to hit buttons on that screen, cos it's crap. Though, I did find a way to restore the list without having to restart. Buggered if I can remember how, unfortunately.

The recent BF2 1.03 patch is here (http://www.eagames.com/official/battlefield/battlefield2/us/downloads.jsp), I'm surprised it's that big a patch.
[edit:] and it took about 20 mins to install. 2 mins to execute and 18 for some stupid "please wait while blah, blah." Voicechat now works thanks to a driver re-install.

I'm up and running for BF2. Shame I can't actually get anywhere without getting badly shot up. I must seem like such a noob.
The squads are a fantastic idea, working best when the squad leader actually knows what they're doing.
64 player maps are vast. I sprinted across one and it took me ages. I'll take an armoured bus the next time :)

You'll get better, trust me. =)
Squads and commanders can be amazing..as long as people actually play decently.
64 person maps are beautiful, just the sheer size of them, the number of things going on and the coordination of a good squad tearing everyone else to shreads. =)

Well, I can't get any worse! I'm on 49 points after an hour or so of play. Slow going, I suppose.
There are a surprising amount of dicks out there. Creating squads and then running in completely different directions.
Can't wait until Friday, anyway. A chance to play in a decent, cohesive team.

My favourite is the people who create squads then refuse to give orders. =/
I LIKE orders, there's a chance that people in the squad will follow them and therefore we'll stick together.

I was really looking forward to a big squad turnout, but we have to start somewhere I suppose. It'll give me a chance to scrape myself up off the bottom of the pack anyway.

Squad size maxes at 6, so if we have more than that we'll need two squads, which could get interesting if we're all in Ventrilo or TS or something and we organise for both squads to work together to take points.

For that kind of situation it would be good to turn ventrilo off for everyone bar squad leaders. Grunts don't need to be distracted by orders from the qrong squad leader.

I have talked to my isp and my problem is that Mog had not got the user name quite right so I should be online tonight but as to weather I get all patched up in time is a different mater.
Andy_Coulter@hotmail.com for my MSN if I appear before you guys start to play some one give me a shout and I will let you know how far I have got ;)
As for regular Friday night BF2 I would love that I don’t go to the pub with anyone down here or anything so BF2 would be superb.

Sounds like a plan, just make sure that everyone's in the same channel so the squad leaders can talk and then give us orders.

I think I've still got to get the hang of covering fire, and the anti-tank support role (sorry, chaps, I couldn't see the tanks for most of the time!).
More practice before next time for me!
