I was going to make a comment about how the hell £5+food can be 'spendy', but I guess you do have a bigger excuse.

That was my (implied) point. Hell, I'm impressed you do come up as often as you do.

Sadly I'm gonna have to pull out, the quantity of project work I need to get through isn't gonna allow me to attend this LAN :-(

I've been speaking to Paradave Talbot from GUGS and it seems that GUGS are going to be running an all-nighter affair on the Saturday of this LAN - down at the Lacuna end of the Food Factory. They've invited the Pause guys to pop over and join in with some of their gaming if we want and I've said that they can pop into the LAN and check out what's going on.

So look out for them and go over and say Hi if you fancy checking out what they're doing.

Perhaps this is a silly question, but how long is 'all night?' As in way past the usual Pause gaming hours?

I used to play Warhammer 40k, amongst other things. Might say hi, on the grounds that they're the OTHER society I joined in first year and never attended...

They're doing an actual all nighter. I believe they're arriving at 10pm or something and then leaving in the morning.

It'll be a Gugathon. They do them from time to time. It'll be all night long.

Can the QM handle such a concentration of geek-dom for such an extended period of time?

Only if there's LARPers there ;)

Don't know if this is the best place to say it, but I need a lift for the next LAN, I'm bringing my (newly upgraded) desktop rather than my laptop this time. I've added my details to the 'need a lift' page, but thought I'd mention it, as I've not needed one before.

Hex
17th January 2008, 20:16
With regard to Lifts, as announced above I'll not be making this LAN - hence those who usually rely on me for lifts (Saladin, etc.) will have to find alternative transport. Sorry guys :-(

GigaFuzz
17th January 2008, 20:29
Yeah, I picked a bad time to stop walking to LANs. :)

I'll go with my laptop again if it's a problem.

Sid

We're trying a slightly different seating plan this LAN, so folk that have paid in advance will need to choose their seats again.

18th January 2008, 11:01
Right, how early on saturday can I get into the QM? Cos i don't fancy setting up on Friday night, and my wee brother will be driving past my flat just before 9, so I can grab a lift with him?

Sid
18th January 2008, 11:15
neogramps: the QM opens at 7-8am or some ridiculous time so you'll be fine getting in at 9. There might just not be that many other people around at that time, though. Most people go home on Friday night at about 1-2am and come back at 10-11am on Saturday.

Still, it's absolutely fine to go up and set up at that time and chill out browsing the net or whatever until the bulk of us get there for 10-11am.

neogramps
18th January 2008, 11:24
yeah it's just easier to get a lift then, rather than wait till ten, then have to walk up to the library to get the car, drive back up, then go repark the car.

Oh and sid can you get me two 12 packs of Mountain Dew(original) (via the tuckshop as GraemeKustom suggests?)

I'm totally coming this time, but will have to miss Saturday evening due to a pre-arranged party.

I'm going to try and get to all the lans - I'm probably going to be moving the week after the FebLan and I can't make it to the EasterLan. Damn, that's the worst year for Lanning I've had in a long while :(

Nice! It'll be good to see you! As folk get older, more and more commitments begin to take over life - it's understandable. :-P

I've set you as "paid" - since you paid for the first LAN but couldn't end up making it. So you should be able to choose a seat in advance now, if you want.

I have a request to make for this lan. Can someone bring along big beefy speakers, for to play ROCK BAND with. i dont want to be stuck with lame PC speakers again (with cables you have to hold at the right angle to get sound lol).

Sid
23rd January 2008, 00:25
Oh, that reminds me. The committee intended to come to a decision regarding the use of speakers at LAN but we haven't had time for a meeting since quite a few of us have been busy this month.

I'm going to impose a temporary full ban on speakers until this has been discussed properly. I'll obviously allow speakers for the console gaming but ideally it should be kept to a fairly low volume during scheduled PC gaming time (if the consoles are being used at all during that time). Feel free to crank it up a little more during lunch&dinner or late at night.

what connectors do you need on the speakers?

GigaFuzz

Since it's a 360, I'm assuming either Optical, or Red/White RCA. The RCAs can of course be easily converted into a normal 3.5mm plug. So, anything, in other words.

Viper001
23rd January 2008, 16:19
yeh, its RCA's or optical. I have a converter to make it into headphone socket though.

Bluepixie

I would be happy to take my 5.1 system, it's optical. And bad ass. Would need uber lift for it though. Thoughts?

A bit overkill, as you're not going to get a proper surround setup in the Food Factory, but if no-one else has anything suitable.... bring the noise!

btw Subcity are having a party over at the postgrad club on Friday if anyone's up for some drinking and beastin' tunes. Only £3 and you don't have to be a postgrad to get in.

More info here (http://www.subcity.org/events.php?id=65).

Nice. I'm probably game for that after setup.

What's the sign in policy?

I think for this night you just need photo ID. If I'm wrong though, I'm a member so can sign some people in.

I'll be there with some buds from Computing - can't afford to take the whole weekend off for the LAN but I can afford to take Friday evening off :-)

:( I feel for you bruv.

my dissertation deadline is 2 weeks away - I've been a busy little bee (had to miss the portable night thingy) getting it a respectable level so I can chill at the LAN. You should come along on the Saturday - nobody does work hungover on a saturday anyway :p, you might as well get some gamage in.

Haha, you'd be surprised - I've managed to write respectable Java code with a hangover before now ;-)

Tbh the major issue is that it's not worth carting my rig to the LAN for a matter of hours and then taking it home again! I might bring the laptop for a game of Source on Saturday evening...we shall see :-)

Either way, I'll see those of you that come on Friday night :-D

The lan event page has rolled over to the lan #5 too soon. I can't see who's coming to the event. Any chance of fixing it to roll over the day after the lan finishes?

Also, see you chaps tomorrow.
