Hi all.
Just saw a leaflet for this and it seemed like a lot of fun! Thought I would just introduce myself, though I don't know if I will be able to make many of the LAN events because I need transport from Wolfson Hall.
Anyway I really enjoy gaming and hope to be able to do some of the LAN events as I did them back home with friends.
Also as a side note has anyone who has been or is staying at Wolfson Hall managed to get games to work online. I think their network must be blocking games or something as I haven't be able to get onto any of them.
I hope to see you guys around :D .
Games: HL2, CS:S, UT2004 and BF2
System specs: 3.2Ghz oc 3.4Ghz, 1GB Ram, X800pro

I believe LastChanceHotel actually stays in those halls and drove to the LAN last time.

I don't even know where those ones are..
As a side note I'll probably end up walking / bussing to any LANs I attend, with a desktop and a CRT monitor strapped to my back.
You shall all take turns at buying me a coke for this feat of stupidity, bravado and sheer stubborness in my hatred of TFT monitors. =P
So, have any of you ever skipped a lecture you were too tired to attend just to sit and program for Comp. Sci?

There's usually someone going from the major halls. Failing that, the buses are OK, they might look on you strangely for trying to take a crt on the buses.
I'm sure there was someone coming from wolfston halls. You might even be able to subtly bribe them (read: offer chocolate etc.) for a lift. That's how I managed to LAN back in the old days.
The other favourite was the share a taxi. Two in a taxi from the same halls is easily doable, and fairly cheap as well.
Glad to have you aboard :)

Welcome! Just ask about for a lift, normally someone has a little extra space. As for playing online in halls, that's a no go. :(
I feel your pain.
I have to wait about 3 weeks before I'll be online again.

Have to wait a week myself now :(
But aye, Lastchancehotel happens to be in the comp. lab atm... and he says... "Sure"
So there's your lift sorted matey. Just PM him and sort it out etc

OK thanks for the response guys. If I have to bribe him with chocolate will a Kinder Beuno do? I have a whole stach of them! :D
And Fyndir I share your hate of TFTs as well, have only and will only use CRTs!
As for no gaming in halls I didn't really expect to find a way to play them but it's still annoying  Will just have to do SP gaming atm.

I don't even know where those ones are..
They're just off the far-end of Maryhill Road at the Science Park, almost as far as Canniesburn Toll. Just short of my parents house...
If you were really desperate you could get the 40 bus to the top of queen margaret drive then wait for the 18 that'll take you down along byres road.

Nope, still lost.
I'm really bad at directions or knowing my way around.
So far I can just about make it from the Flat to University Avenue, from the QM to Bearsden and from Bearsden to the SECC (from which I can get to the flat easily).
Next step is to find out bus routes etc for the area so I can actually make it to the November LAN.
Completely Unrelated Side Note: Did any of you go to the QMU last night? I was going to pop along and have a look but I was utterly shattered from being up all night on Tuesday then going to lectures and the Rifle Club earlier on the Wednesday.

Yeah, I was there. I was in the food factory until 11 though. I go to the science fiction society (http://www.iosoc.org.uk) most weeks.
The rifle club, really? I used to be president of that too. How is it nowadays?

I'm probably not geeky enough for that one. =P
The rifle stuff seems alright, I think there's seriously dwindling member numbers though and they're struggling to keep any kind of consistent team of people who have shot for long enough to do it well. Ah well, I plan to stick around so hopefully I'll get good enough to be of some use.

They've always been struggling for numbers ever since I could remember. They've always managed to retain the hard core though, turning up for every match. Ah, those were good times.

Oh well, the guy I talked to about it seemed to think it was worse this year, I honestly wouldn't know though.

I just haven't been able to go for the last few weeks due to the LAN and work.

I used to be at Wolfson and unfortunately there is no SRC bus at a good time to come to the LAN at the designated time. However... there is just outside wolfson the bus stop for the 109,119,40 and you can ride these down to just past where Lidl's is to get an 18 which'll take you straight down Byres Road. Then give one of us a ring to give you a hand with the stuff down Uni Avenue. Strings has a general idea of near where I live and I know exactly where Wolfson is so if Strings doesn't mind doing maybe 2 trips with me in tow ( 1 for Adrian) amd one for you then I'm sure we can sort out some form of transportation.

As long as I have Phizz as my navigator. We can drop off Adrian then come and get you etc.

Screw that, lets just steal a bus and get everyone in one big trip. =P

We could get the SRC minibus for the lans. We just need two of the GUNS members to pass the SRC minibus test (really easy, takes 15 mins over lunchtime) and we can use the minibus to transport you chappies to the lan.

I would have preferred the illegality of hopping onto a bus, yelling "LOLNUBSKNIFEONLY" and then stabbing everyone...
but that's just me and my lack-of-sleep-addled brain, probably. =P
