View Full Version : Bowling Night Out!

We're having a night out to the bowling on Friday 16th.

AMF Bowling
Springfield Quay.

Meet at the bowling at 8PM. Or alternatively, or meet outside the QMU at 7PM and we'll head down and get the subway as a group.

Cost should be £7.50 for 2 games.

Afterwards, many of us will be heading back to the west end so we can all head back as a group again.

A good few of us will probably be heading into the QMU for a drink and, you never know, perhaps a wee dance.

Original Post:

We're having a night out to the bowling on Friday 16th.

The one we usually go to at Finnieston has closed down so we're heading to the Springfield Quay. Meeting at 8pm.

I suggest that we all meet outside the QM at 7ish, and then we can all head down as a group. Any ideas what's the easiest way to get there? Is there a bridge to cross over the river at Anderston? If so, we could walk down to Partick train station and get the train from Anderston. Sheilds Road subway?

The website says 2 games + shoe hire is £10 but we usually get a decent discount for being students. So I reckon it'll be around £7-8 each for 2 games.

There's a signup here if you wanna everyone know that you're coming :p

I went last week with the swim team.

Yeh shields road subway was the way that we went, then walked halfway round the industrial estate looking for it cos the organiser didnt actually know wher it was, so get a map!

Student price is £7.50 for two games and shoes.

The bar is horrendously overpriced

Surely getting the Exhibiton centre train and walking over the lovely new bridge on Finnieston St is your best option no?

Almost certainly tbh, if everyone turned up at the Exhibition Centre Station and those of us who live in Finnieston anyway just meet you there (Travel to west end and back just to meet you guys when the place we're going to is partially visible from my window? Fuck off. =P) then we walk over the squinty bridge and along the riverside to the Quay.

Map to show this idea follows.

EDIT: Had to use Photobucket because Bowling Night #1 07.jpg:
Exceeds your quota by 11.82 MB apparently.

Key:
Red Dot = Approx. Location of Exhibition Centre Station.
Blue Dot = Approx. Location of Troll Hole.
Pink Dot = Approx. Location of Bowling.
Yellow Line = Approx. Location of Bridge. (Google need to update their fucking maps tbh)

Proposed route: Meet at station, walk through floating tunnel of magics to the SECC car park (the massive blank bit next to the river is SECC + car park), walk along to bridge, cross bridge, wander along to bowling.

Possible bonus of stopping for food in the various food places near the bowling.

I'm with the Troll, his route sounds better than anyone elses, and being as I live right next to Hyndland station I can just hop on the train 1 stop and meet you guys at Exhibition Centre. I've not signed up for this cos I dunno what my deadline situation will be but I'm 90% sure that I'm coming :-)

I used to work at springfield quay so here's how you get there from the QM. Take the 44/ 44A down to Union Street and get off. Take the 9/ 54/56/57 to the stop just after springfield quay. Walk the whole 2 mins or so rather than the shield's road 10mins.

You left out the bit where you wait 20 mins for each bus to come. I am most certainly not relying on the buses :-P

By the looks of it, Shields road subway is half the distance away that Exhibition centre is, and also means we can jump on at Hillhead subway rather than walking down to Partick.

I'm happy to go with whatever the majority think is best, though.

You guys can all take the underground to Shields Road then play RL Frogger with the M8 if you want, I'll just stick with my plan thanks. ;)

With folk scattered all over maybe it'd be easier if we just met up at the bowling alley itself, or travelled in several small groups? The troll's plan makes most sense to me!

Sid
5th November 2007, 11:35
Absolutely - I expect many people to make their own way there, but I'd like to organize a group travel plan for those that don't want to have to worry about getting there by themselves. It makes sense for Fyndir to make his own way there given that he lives just across the river from the place.

Walking from Shields road is slightly shorter than the Exhibition center route but not much. It really just depends whether people live closer to Partick or Hillhead, I guess.

Bumpety bump!!! We usually get 10-14 for our bowling nights!! Why have only 5 signed up so far? Is there something else happening that night?

GigaFuzz
6th November 2007, 19:11
I think I'll be going, I'll my arse over to the sign-up page. Not sure what I'll be doing about getting there. If you do indeed have some kind of meet-up somewhere, I'll tag along with that, otherwise I'll probably tube it to Shields Road.

As said before, I will probably be coming but just in case I'm not I'm not gonna sign up just yet!

OK. Plan is finalized. A week tomorrow (Friday 16th) at AMF Bowling, Springfield Quay for 8PM. Either make your own way there or meet us outside the QMU at 7PM to head along as a group.

Heading back to the QMU / west end pub afterwards for drinks.

Everyone welcome. Bring yer mates too if you like! Be there!

Is anyone thinking group dinner before / after bowling?

YegaDoyai
15th November 2007, 17:22
Yes, I'll be having dinner before you go bowling. Why do you ask?

Nandos is over there. I love Nandos.

I've had a stinker of a week. I cant wait for bowling! Its going to be a hoot!

Fyndir

Nandos is over there. I love Nandos.

Isn't Nandos a plate of spice covered in more spice with a glass of spice and a side of spice? =P

Dunno about that for me, mate, anyone else thinking about dinner as a group or am I best just getting something in my flat before I come out? =P

saladin
15th November 2007, 18:53
They do a non-spicy Lemon and Herb sauce for pussies.

Fyndir
15th November 2007, 18:59
Do I need to bust your jaw to prove I'm not a pussy? ;)

It's not that I can't handle spice, I just don't like it that much, I don't find it tasty.

So yeah, we could give Nandos a shot if anyone else is up for that.

Question is, pre-bowling or post-bowling?

The nandos at the quay is open till 11, so in theory post-bowling would work.

Thoughts?

Hex

Me @ Poor so I'll eat dinner at home methinks

Fyndir
15th November 2007, 19:22
If not enough people actually want to go to Nandos then I'll probably not bother. =P

GigaFuzz

Hey, they said it, not me. ;)

I reckon we should just play by ear. If people feel like going after, fine. If not, I'll manage a lonely pizza when I get home.

Sid
15th November 2007, 21:59
I'll probably eat before I go too.

I was thinking that we could all head back to the west end as a group afterwards and go for a drink somewhere.

I'll catch you all outside the QMU at 7pm tomorrow (or at 8PM at the bowling if you're making your own way there)!!!!!!!

Just realised that I'm going to a gig (Jesu, YUSSS!!!) so I won't be able to make the bowling.

If you head to a pub/club afterwards then give me a text and I might be able to come after the gig.

Fuck bags. This is tonight, isn't it?

SHIT! I was planning on spending the evening playing Assassassasin's Creed and Super Mario Galaxy.

...guess I'll just have to wait - social life marginally more important than games...marginally...

I had a real hoot last night - I had forgotten how much fun bowling is.

I'll scan the photoshop'd scores of my 2 victories later this weekend for all to see. You guys need to up your game next time :p

Sid
18th November 2007, 01:29
lol yeah - was a really good fun night out despite my bowling sucking majorly!! :D

I noticed that many of the regulars didn't show up. Is Friday a bad night for people? Any suggestions about what we should do for the next night out? Perhaps a night out to a comedy club?

Anywayz... hope to see you all at LAN #3!!:

Sid, remember I said to you I was going to take a nap and hopefully feel better and make it along?

Nap turned into about 5 or 6 hours of sleep. =P
