Awesome news, great looking site, was it always £5? Or is this to renew membership?

It used to always be £5. For the whole of last year it was dropped to £3 but the current committee feel that, by the end of the year, even with saving all the money, there isn't really that much left to invest back into the club. By charging slightly more per event, it means that in the future the club will be able to buy any upgrades that are needed.

We also felt that the pricing structure was a bit overly complicated last year. £3 for membership then first LAN free, then £3 per LAN afterwards if you signed up in advance and £5 if you didn't etc.

This year, if you wanna turn up at a LAN, it's £5. No membership charges, no different whether you've signed up in advance or not.

For the folk with cars, if you offer transport for 3 or more people, you'll get in for free.

Signed up. Not done the transport thing yet, I can (and will) offer transport but I'll sort out offering lifts once more people have signed up.

Erm, I don't have a rig with me here at uni, only have an m1330 on order :S

Wouldn't mind popping over to the Lan just to see what it looks like, but I'll have to be on the sidelines for this one.

A Dell XPS M1300 laptop should be sufficient for playing most of the games we do. When are you expecting it to arrive?

You should definitely pop along with your laptop and join in. Failing that, you're more than welcome to come along and watch.

you should definately come along and have a look but I have to ask, did you get the optional Nvidia graphics for your lappy (assuming Sid guessed the Dell correctly)? If not you might find it hard playing even HL2.

Yeah its a dell XPS, with a 128mb 8400M GS, not brilliant but will manage some of the older stuff acceptably. I got the white-led screen too which I'm hoping to be impressed with!

Well its currently in a depot in Limerick so I'm expecting it next week, providing the porter at Murano St. doesn't send it back as the address is for reception...

Due to my PSU blowing up on me I do not know if I will be able to attend this lan, will have to see how fast I can get a replacement for it.
I guess i'd be ok if I showed up unannounced as I've already paid for the lan.
Crossing my fingers that I will get a replacement soon as I can't really afford a new PSU at the moment.

If you have enough cash floating around, you could buy a new PSU then just sell the RMAed power supply "as new" when you get it. Graeme from KustomPCs will be at our event and will be taking pre-orders for delivery at LAN (news of this soon).

Tib, didn't you get a Tagan?

Tiberio
23rd September 2007, 16:16
It's a tagan 700W and the on/off button actually fell off and now it doesn't work, have no idea what happened, but i've been offered an RMA and thats good enough for me.
I unfortunately don't have an extra 100 pounds lying around atm so will have to wait and see when I get the replacement.
I MIGHT get lucky and get the replacement quick enough but if not I will try and squeeze the money out of my dad lol.

YegaDoyai
23rd September 2007, 17:48
'fell off' wtf!

From reading since you purchased the 500, 600 and 700 in the same range by Tagan were all round the worst PSUs that Tagan have produced and they were quick to replace them with a new line up. Just a bugger that you got one before then. Are they doing a like for like swap or can you get one of the new models?

Tiberio
24th September 2007, 00:10
I really don't know if I get a swap or a new model, OCuK told me to send it to them for a replacement so I will just have to wait and see, however, i'm extremely annoyed by the fact that I spend nearly a 100 pounds on a supposedly high performance PSU and the power button falls of after 8 months of service, that should not happen.
Will keep you guys updated, should have news around thursday.

Hi all, just a quick update on my situation.
Got a replacement PSU on friday but still encountering some issues, but I will be at the lan this weekend. :)

maybe not the best place to post it but good to hear Tib.

Seems a reasonable enough place to post it considering his previous posts were here.

Although he could continue the trend and go for "Tiberio's Troublesome Tagan Thread".

Cool, but like bf2 and shit to get it all patched is a nightmare

BF2 does take quite a while to get patched - but it will be available on our fileserver, like most anything you can think of. So if you come in early on the Saturday, you can get it patched first thing so you don't miss any gaming :) (assuming you would have problems downloading it either by net restraints or laziness).

PaulRPG
1st October 2007, 22:18
Well, what are the actual times of it happening, or direct me to a webpage which has the sole purpose of telling me such details

Sid
1st October 2007, 22:21
The Events page (where you signed up) should tell you everything you need to know specific to the event and the Club Info page should tell you about any little bits and pieces you might need to know.

The event starts at 11am on Saturday and the first game will begin around noon probably.

PaulRPG
1st October 2007, 22:28
Awsome, should be awake by then :p I ain't played bf2 properly since release when i was in enemy down and shit, at microplay's all nighter 7 i 'comandeered' (stole) our tank and got about double the score of anyone else ;) any idea of the games playing or is it just whatever you can be fucked with?

Sid
2nd October 2007, 17:11
OK folks, we've now reached 48 signups which means that, assuming all 48 people come along, we'll have maxed out the original maximum attendance. If I were to be strict about it, only the 17 that have paid in advance would be guaranteed a place then it'd be a case of first-come first-served.

However, if more people outside the 48 people come along, I will definitely NOT turn anyone away. Our dell switches offer us the capacity for 64 players. The only limiting factor is the the number of proper desks available.

Bottom line: there's no limit to the number of people that can come, but the people who are last to arrive (assuming they haven't paid in advance and reserved their seat) will not be guaranteed one of the better desks and instead might have to make do with one of the food factory rounded tables.

I'm really excited now yay, 48 people I can get pummeled by!
Sorry Yega if you feel I shouldn't post my pc problems here but I really didn't feel that it was relevant to create a whole new thread.
Anyway, the smart ones among you can have a look at it this weekend, whoever fixes/diagnoses it first will get a mystery price! :P

By the way will there be internet access available at the lan, I haven't had access to the internet since I moved in down at cooperage so my games might all be out of date, including Steam :(
Can anyone bring updates on a disc if the net isn't available?
Sorry for asking this late but the internet should have been working by today.

Sid
5th October 2007, 18:08
There will hopefully be internet access.

There will be patches for all the major games and all the latest Steam GCFs, anyway.

Tiberio

There will be internet access come hell or high water. I even have a Vodafone 7Mbps mobile broadband (tm) card for my lappy which can be shared, just in case :)

But yes, interweb will be available.
