There is a new version of the P180 out, it is essentially the "master pimp" version and fixies all the issues we have with the current case (like it is a minor pain that you can't adjust the fan speeds without modding or removing the side of the case.) And makes a few other improvements like painting the inside black and giving it a pimping chrome look to the outside.
Thought I'd redirect this thread to its original purpose by pointing out a pretty comprehensive review of the Antec P182 by the good folks at bit-tech. You can read it here (http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/2007/04/26/Antec_P182_case_review/1.html). Basically (if you can't be arsed to read the article) while its still not QUITE perfect, it does fix some of the issues with the P180. Apparently the case can even accomodate dual 8800 GTXs in an SLI setup, so long as you don't have a ridiculous quantity of hard drives. I recommend reading the review, it points out the differences between the P180 and the new P182, which I must say aren't really at all obvious from Antec's press releases. Methinks I'll be purchasing one of these babies for the new rig :-D
Also at bit-tech here (http://www.bit-tech.net/gaming/2007/04/18/Gaming_mice_shootup/1.html) is a review of 4 new gaming mice. With the exception of the newest Razer offering it seems nobody is about to challenge Logitech for the dominance of the gaming mouse market.

DAve's thread is better.
Anyway, I'm using the Razor Deathadder and I must say that it is a nice piece of kit. It's smooth, macros can be set to the buttons, the wheel has a nice 'clunk' to it when you roll it, the main buttons feel effortless, it's nicely ergonomic and it looks dead sexy.
All in all it is win.

Do you mean just keys, or actual multi-action macros?

I picked up an Ergo 525 from Genius for £25 (nipped to maplin *shudder* to buy a replacement when my mouse broke a month or so ago). pretty good so far.
It looks a LOT like a Logitech 518 - it even has the same laser in it. 4 DPI settings up to 400-2000 (and you can disable any of them, cycle thru with thumb button). Got a bunch of additional buttons etc, good weight too. Also it came with a free huge Steel Pad.
Highly recommend to anyone on a budget.

Hard to see how someone can be selfish with a thread when thread's are free. If you want to say something there's no problem with making a new thread. If someone starts a thread for a specific purpose, why would you want to post to it if it goes directly against that purpose? That's just being an ass.

Posting articles about hardware in a thread entitled "Yega's Hardware Thread".....how does this go against the purpose of the thread? Yes, threads are free, but why segregate discussion of the same topic? I see no reason at all why everyone can't post and discuss in a single thread....

Yega made a thread so he could air his views on what he thought were pertinent hardware developments. Otherwise it would just be posts in the hardware forum. Just because you don't see the point of such a thread is no reason to go shitting over it. If you think there should be a thread for everyone to post to then go for it.

Ok fine, as the mods have soooooooooo much time on their hands, can I request this thread be renamed "Everyone's hardware thread". From now on, anyone can feel free to post whatever they like hardware related in here (unless its really important enough to warrant a thread of its own) - basically a hardware equivalent of the "Thread for those with boredom".

Done, took about five seconds so it's not really a case of "sooooooooooooo much time" though. =/

Would hardly call it excessive, although Monsieur Fyndir does gets carried away sometimes. I'm sure you'd moan if there was no moderating at all though.

Slashdot report that the Geforce 8800 Ultra (http://hardware.slashdot.org/hardware/07/05/02/141250.shtml) has hit the shelves. The article contains links to various reviews. Essentially its a beast of a card but the asking price (approx £500) is patently ridiculous. Who buys cards at those prices?
YegaDoyai
2nd May 2007, 17:44
It was officialy released but as it has not made it to our retail channels the kind of people that buy them at those prices will still be hard pushed to get one. Word on the street is that you are unlikely to ever see one. They also jumped the gun a bit, ATi released info in april regarding thier new card and it's performance Nvidia knowing that the the X2900 XTX is behind even thier current card have released the Ultra before ATi even get to the shelves. If ATi are sandbagging this might be the much anticipated market shift. But lets face it, when have ATi ever delivered on thier promise? (you could argue on the 'X' line up launch but that was off the back of the 9700 which was the first card that gave ATi the performance crown)
Waiting with baited breath, as always.
Oh and it is actually not that much quicker in current games, it is about twice as quick as the Ati X1950 XTX and about 2-3% quicker than the 8800GTX Definately worth the $999 RRP.
Much as I've never been an ATi fanboy, its a shame to see a good card manufacturer struggling. If nothing else, ATi going under merely means that nVidia have no competition, and hence they will start charging more money for less power. Lets hope ATi can pull something out of the bag soon....(same goes for AMD)

IBM are now making computer chips out of snow..or something (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/6618919.stm).
Tomshardware is running an article comparing Mainstream CPUs i.e. midrange Core2Duos against the competition from AMD. You can read it here (http://tomshardware.co.uk/2007/05/04/which_is_the_best_mainstream_cpu_uk/). While this ground has been covered over and over and over, this is a ridiculously comprehensive comparison if anyone wants to read all 11 pages of it. It seems the C2Ds still have the edge if you wanna spend reasonable money on a chip.

Apparently, the new X2900XTX has been put back to Q3, while the XT will be released on the 14th may along with the rest of the series.
This is supposedly due to problems with implementing the new GDDR4 ram and making the XTX more stable.
In other news, the supposed price will be around the 250£ mark for the XT, and the card will come with a HDMI->DVI dongle as well for those of us with HDCP capable screens.

You can actually buy real glass touchscreens that go over your existing monitor and interface to your PC via USB or (god forbid) serial. But yeah, there's the cost...

my brother (greasel_burger) managed to break the toughened glass touchscreen of a toughbook, while it was inside a hard laptop bag. The screen was fine though, amazingly enough - but the glass layer for the touchscreen took that abuse like a...well... toughbook touchscreen should.
So, uh, nothing is immune from the vicious mistreatment of greasels!

Just found this (http://www.zalman.co.kr/eng/product/view.asp?idx=224&code=030) while perusing the Zalman website. It's a notebook cooler made of pressed aluminium, with two inbuilt fans and a fanspeed controller. Better still it powers from the laptop's USB port, saving the need for a power adaptor. According to the charts on the Zalman website, it can potentially halve both noise and temperature. So the cost of this beauty? £29.99 inc VAT (http://www.quietpc.com/gb-en-gbp/products/audio-and-laptop-products/zm-nc1000-notebook-cooler). I am SO BUYING THIS!
It was officialy released but as it has not made it to our retail channels the kind of people that buy them at those prices will still be hard pushed to get one. Word on the street is that you are unlikely to ever see one.

Says the man who bought his rebadged Dell at over the odds prices just so it said mac on the top.
The price of my laptop is justified by a feature that no Dell can boast - it runs Mac OS X. That case on the other hand has no extra features, just an different finish, and that is not worth double the price.

the stainless steel finish might conduct heat better than a painted case.
