April LAN - Feedback

Hey guys!

Don't know about you but I had an awesome time. Was great to frag (chop you up with an axe :p) you in person and look forward to doing at all over again. I hope that I can see you all again before I go at the AGM (annual general meeting) to select the new committee as well. Shall let you know when that'll happen, probably after exams I think. I'll have some photos and screenshots up this afternoon, will post a link. I know this wasn't a very structured LAN but as always feedback is appreciated. Arrrrr! Shiver me timbers. :)

Usuaully gor and myself run a 3v3 CSS tournament but we weren't at this LAN. We'll most definitely do it next time we're there.

I got a parking ticket on friday, i ran out of fuel in LFS 3 laps befor the end and came dead last, i got a nail in my tyre on sunday and on the way back down the road my alternator decided to packup cutting in and out all the way down the road !!1 AAARRRGGGGG RAGE!111

I actualy played and enjoyed CSS z0mgz , the fun maps was FUN!!1 and the normal maps were fun too probbaly because i wasent getting pwnt so much :P ohh and damn u HEX and ur AWP!!1 M249 time!111

Played some Gmod on friday night untill silly oclock that was fun ,, some ,, some what random contraptions were built... :P.. Uber turret of death ftw

Although project reality (BF2) had a mixed responce i liked it a nice change from Bf2, again something that is not normaly played.. The BF2 games on sunday were a good laugh as well although filled with a little bitching :P, ,,, pwns j00 all with my p90 H4X!

UT, Quake some nice little games of fragerage,, dual pistol pwnage ftw :)

Most memerable points....

well i recon thats one of if not the best lan iv been to so far, i loved the layed back unstructured atmosphere, there seemed to always be games going on and there was not a point where i was bored, and on a last note.. a great thanks to Pixie, mr Troll , jan, yega, strings and every once elce who organised, hosted games etc etc

Yeh I had a really great time with all you guys. Much preferred the free-form schedule but making sure that everyone was getting something to play.

With this format, new games were abound. And by that I mean PVK. Wouldn't, and couldn't have got a look in at previous LANs due to scheduling and all sorts of other nonsense. That was the aspect I've been missing from the LANs; random, stupid and awesome new games.

Toblo, while looking good with potential, hated us all and mocked us everytime is chucked us out of a server by yelling "Toblo!" in that annoying high pitched voice.

Dodgeball was a good laugh as well, definitely a step up from the last non-working alpha release. Rapid bomb balls ftw.

PVK... I'm not sure if mere words can capture it. Knights were rather ominous, Vikings were rather vicious, but pirates owned. Simple as. That was the most fun I've had at a LAN for a while, awesome gameplay and banter hehe.

So aye, my only regret was not making it sooner on Friday

As ever the LAN was highly entertaining, with a few minor annoyances (most of which centre around BF2). It was great to game with all of you's again (haven't been to a LAN in far too long previous to this one).

Highlights:

* PVK - this shit is the bomb. Pirates ftw, arrrrr!
* CS:S - fun maps or not, this is one of my fave games so :-D on that score
* Worms Armageddon with Strings, Ches & Viper - Scurvy Pete lives!
* Dodgeball's utter stupidity
* Generally excellent atmosphere

Lowlights:

* Having to reinstall BF2 from scratch. I hate EA :-(
* Project Reality. I'm not gonna rant here, but I don't dig it, seems like BF2 but less fun

So yeah overall good stuff. Sadly yet again I forgot to get a game of Far Cry on the go, but I guess it might happen, eventually lol. Equally Doom3 co-op would have been fun but never materialised. The only thing that maybe we should do in future is scout out interesting mods before the LAN and post to the forum, allowing everyone to download stuff beforehand. I spent a fair bit of time installing stuff like Sourceforts, F.E.A.R. Combat, PVK etc, and plenty of these games never actually got played for whatever reason. I know this happens every time, so to that end maybe we should post a sticky containing an exhaustive list of games, with a rating as to the likelyhood of them being played at the LAN. As most of us have bountiful hard drive space it'd be much easier for everyone to spend a day downloading and installing before the lan, allowing everyone to turn up, ready to play anything. Granted I'm being optimistic about people's foresight here, but its worth a try!

Where is this thread, I can't find one (certainly no stickied threads). More than that I refuse to accept that 3 games account for an entire weekend of play, its not that tight a selection. Sourceforts and Starcraft often seem to get a good outing for a start...

Despite HexT3hGlassMapAWPz0r insulting the Rick James album in my shared music folder, this LAN may take place as the best one yet.

People've mentioned the atmosphere which was great - nice and relaxed with the unscheduled structure removing the 'omg must play x at x' tournament centric element. Was never without a game to play and the games flowed smoothly between one another with a nice variety of stuff being played.

Didn't play Toblhomo. Looked highly gay & turns out it was.

PR was on the whole good but was badly managed. Why wasn't the dedi server working? The initial maps were also rather shit as introductory maps. A slightly confusing extraction mission followed by the rice paddied version of Omaha beach didn't put the mod in good light. The game on Oman the ~8-10 of us stuck around for was great and I think is definately worth a 'better' try. And I was actually good at something BF2 related 8-)

CSS was excellent. Unstructured games, abundant funmaps and people who don't pwn me by spinning around and popping me in the face with their aimbot h4x was nice.

GRAW was fun. Nice teamwork clearing the various maps, especially when we had the 7 or so people playing at the same time.

PVK. I enjoyed slaughtering pirates with my twin handed sword. Scurvy parrot banging cocksmiths.

+1 on the 'likely random shit to be played at LAN' from Hex. However playing PVK was random. Was a case of Strings saying to me in a discussion on random games "seen that thing with the pirates n shit" "yeah, it pwns. I have the install" before everyone installed it. Highlight of the LAN I think :P

an ok LAN, however i did not enjoy it to the full due to sleep deprevation...

1. CSS: need more balance between funmaps and real ones... like one fun, one real
2. BF2: unlocks are not good for LAN play, they really really lose alot of the fun (specificly the P90 and g36) at least with the orginal version all the weapons are equal on some level
3. PR - was ok, the urban maps were cool but i never really got to test out the jets or attack copters. the pilot rescue was a total blast once everyone figured out what they were doing (we need to arrange teams and squads around where people are placed)

well i liked haveing unlocks, yes i did kinda dish some pwnage with my p90 but that was only becuase we were playing strike at karkand and map with longer range combat and it would have been a diffrent story, & you have to use tactics, if there is a guy with a p90,, trying to cqb him with a rifle is not a good idea,,,

Guarding uncaps should be un-necessary since you have no reason to be there unless you're being a cock. =/

If you want to sit outside a capturable point that we've taken and rape us as we spawn there then that's all well and good, we'll have other places to spawn and you'll be contributing to your team taking an objective. The uncap rape is just being a cock for the sake of it, all you're doing is ruining the flow of the game and making it an exercise in one-sided futility.

Strings: Well put, but on that note lets end it there for continued LAN feedback.

All the Pause bags have been checked, and numerous people (you know who you are) have had a good look through the stuff they brought back with them from the LAN. None of the missing items (two headphone adapters, one is mine the other is strings', a mouse, and a thumbdrive) have been found.

Joking aside, I really doubt this is an issue of theft. The mouse might be a desirable item, but headphones adaptors and pendrives are cheap as chips so I sincerely doubt anyone would have stolen em. More than that, I maintain that the Pause lot wouldn't rob stuff from each other! I reckon its far more likely that these things were dropped in the QMU and some other thieving bastard has nicked em....
