Something for Jan to look into;

Nice little Intranet site specifically made for LAN parties. Same system Gumpcom uses. At first glance, seems like a nice little package for showing tournaments and organising them. Also includes features like server queries and food/pizza run requests.

This looks very interesting. It has seating plans, share names, and a whole bunch of other stuff... The only problem is I think it might be a little overkill for what we need it for!
From taking a good look at it, it seems like it's meant to be an addition to the projector and information board we currently have. It'd require everyone to put their details into the system each LAN (unless I can rustle up some integration, which will most likely be a pain), and quite a bit of maintenance and "keeping up to date" by admins and the like.
I'm concerned that we don't really need all this for a 30-head LAN club - however, if people browse the example site at https://www.nerdclub.net/25jun2004/intranet/index.html, and think you really want this, let me know and I'll put up a poll to gauge interest.

Integration wouldn't be too hard to do - just write a program to scan the web page that has the RSVP poll on it, and grab all the yesses from there. Possibly cross-reference that with the members page... it's pretty doable.

The intranet based schedule looks good; as does the web based file indexing (nicer that looking through loads of folders on networked machines). Tournament signup would be a useful feature but I still feel that tournament organizers would probably end up having a real job getting everyone to go onto it and add their name - so it might be more trouble that it's worth. The caffeine log is a good laugh. Shoutbox is great, as is the intranet "latest at the lan" type frontpage news. The seating plan is an alright idea, but I'm not convinced we need it just yet.
Once we start hitting a consistent 50-100 people each LAN, something like this would be really useful. If we start hitting that kind of figure, I'd be tempted to do a re-haul of the whole internet website actually, with a lot more integrated focus on signing up, optional paying in advance, choosing your seat etc. I'm not particularly happy with the functionality of the current site but I don't really have the time or motivation to do anything about it for the small numbers we have at the moment.

the intranet radio was over loudspeakers but got turned off during tourneys so you could concentrate. but then again they had big interals between tournesys. like an hour or more.

I dunno about that. I personally detest having other folks' music afflicted on me at a LAN, or really excessive sound of any kind (besides the baying for other people's blood of course)

well they had a vote system as well. you requested a song and then it got bumped up by others voting on it. so just intimidate enough of us to vote for your songs and you'll be happy. :D

THERE IS NO GOTHIC! awesome
+1 for larry's idea, as long as we can 50/50 with Rammstein. A medley of the two greatest German bands the world has ever known...

Scooter have about as much musical talent as a gerbil. They speed up half decent songs add a bass and get that tit of a frontman to shout over the top of it. That is not music.
Phizz. Your an idiot.
SCOOTER ARE IMMENSE!

Wow, this spiralled out of control pretty quickly. I better contribute!
Scooter are great. Don't diss. Chuck some Rammstein in there, reinstate the mega PA from last time, only improved with the projector used for the video too... All we'd need is a mirror ball (Which I conveniently have), and a laser show.

I don't think I've ever heard Scooter, unless someone played them at me during a LAN..
Oh well, hopefully someone will be kind enough to let me hear what all the fuss is about at the next LAN, and then I can save up for an album.

Seems alright, I wouldn't call it a pinacle of musical excellence, but it most certainly doesn't offend my ears. =P

It's best enjoyed at a gajillion decibels, probably in a tiny vauxhall corsa, at about 90mph with four passengers.
(all of which will probably be neds).
Well, discounting the neds and the corsa [who seem to come with the territory], it's quite listenable.

Corsa? 90mph? you must be kidding. It's best enjoyed TRYING to do 90 in a corsa.

Well, it's not awful and Rammstein ain't too bad - I spammed them earlier in life. But Dschinghis Khan are clearly the best band out of Germany.

Axtually I really like the corsa the 94-98 model have suspension tuned by lotus (because the original 93 model was appauling). I can confirm that the 1.2LS could do 100 quite happily given enough room and some fool managed to squeeze a 2l sports model into the range in about 95, so I'd imagine all but the 1l corsas are actually capable of the ton. But, having done it, i wouldn't reccomend it to anyone.
