Looking at feedback from the last LAN, and the tourny that we had there, there seems to be a decent amount of interest in Starcraft. People who played had a good time, and a lot of people wanted to play but couldn't because of cross-scheduling.
Therefor: Starcraft League!
This is going to be as flexible as possible, and will run between LAN's. Everyone who enters is responsible for setting up their own games, so you can play as little or as often as you want.
Once we are up and running you can challenge anyone else who's playing to a game. You can play each other player up to two times. The league will run until everyone has played all possible games, or until the friday before the next lan (whichever happens first).
Rules:
To keep it simple in our first time out, we'll limit the map to the same as the tourny at the LAN - Lost Temple Gamei (http://www.wgtour.com/map.php?datab=broodwar). Everyone who played then should have a copy of it (it will likely reside in a 'WGT' folder in your maps folder. The (n) version is the normal one, the (o) version is the observer one - ignore it).
The game should be set up on this map, Free For All, speed: Faster (the next LAN tourny will be at Faster speed, so this will give you good practice). If both players agree to it, another speed can be used.
Scoring will be weighted based on player skill. I'm going to keep this as simple as possible, so: there are three brackets. In Bracket 3 is Ming, in Bracket 2 is me (Sideshow), Pit and Raymond, and in Bracket 1 is everyone else. If you beat someone in a higher bracket, you receive bonus points equal to twice the difference in bracket. So if someone in bracket 1 beat me, they'd get 3 points total (1+2*(2-1)), while if they beat Ming they'd get 5 (1+2*(3-1)). I'd only get 3 for beating Ming. This is fairly rough&ready - if the league is a successful idea, then next time we can use the stats from this one to better inform skill level handicaps.
After each game the winner MUST save the replay of the game, and post it in the thread (more details on how to do this once people have enrolled and I've set up the thread for league itself).
What you will need:
A copy of Starcraft Broodwars, patched up to v1.14
Hamachi (http://www.hamachi.cc/download/list.php) VPN software.
Hamachi is very easy to use; it lets you fake a LAN over the internet. To set it up, download and install it. Once it's running, find the 'join network' option and enter these details:
Network name: pauseSC
password: scv
To start a game, run starcraft, hit multiplayer, broodwars, local area network (UDP), your name and then Create Game to make the game or just double click a game to join it.
If you are interested in playing, post here!
