Right, I know this isn't really LAN discussion....but you guys don't have an off topic forum so its here for lack of anywhere better. I'm just havin a look around at PC bits cos I'm bored and in a few months I'm gonna build a new rig (get some money for my 21st :D). I've noticed that the Core2Duo chips are a huge amount more expensive than the Athlon 64's....in the past I've always used AMD chips to keep the price down when building a PC, but my budget is fairly large for this one...so is it worth paying the extra for a Core2Duo?

Core 2 Duos are the best processors going at the moment by a long way - they should be cheaper, too.
An E6300 should be more than adequate.

Sadly, C2D > AMD
Go here Tomshardware (www.tomshardware.co.uk) and check out the CPU database for a comparison.
The best performance (when overclocking is taken into consideration) comes from the:
E4300 (Cheap as chips)
E6600 (Has lots of L2 cache)
Like sid says you can consider the E6300 capable of being the chip to have lots of folk at the lan have one and they work just dandy.
